Free
You hold:[hv=d=w&v=b&s=s76hkjt986d7c9743]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] The auction starts:1♦ - pass - 2♣ - 2♥? Opener is known to never psych, 2♣-bidder never psychs but sometimes overbids. What do you think of this 2♥ bid?
Guest Jlall
Totally fine and normal to me. Passers will get a nice spade lead from pard vs 3N, or defend when pard has KQxx Qxxx Axxx x etc
helene_t
You have four tricks so if you are down 3, it means partner had only one trick so opps probably have slam.
jdonn
2♥ is fine although I wouldn't fault passing either when vul. Bidding would be completely automatic not vul.
Finch
How forcing is 2♣ ?If it's game forcing, 2♥ looks obviousIf it's SAYC style, so they've promised invitational values, 2♥ is OKIf it's old-fashioned Acol style, it's effectively the same as overcalling directly over 1♠ and while it might work, it's dangerous, as you have to cater for your side having game on strength in this auction which makes the bid very wide range. whereagles
2♥ isn't as obvious as 3♥ for me ;)
han
I wouldn't bid 3♥. The opponents have already exchanged a fair amount of information so the upside is smaller, and it will be easier for them to penalize us. We are also vulnerable. han
Interesting to see that 9 of the 18 voters consider 2H at least on the wrong side of borderline.
P_Marlowe
50/50 I think being red, tipps it,but the bid is ok, risky, butok, but partner needs to beunderstanding, if it comes toclose decisions. Free
For all of you who would bid 2♥, the auction continues:1♦ - pass - 2♣ - 2♥2NT - Dbl What kind of hand do you give partner?
jdonn
One that can set 2NT. Easy pass for me now if partner is to be trusted. He probably has a strong unbalanced hand with long diamonds.
gwnn
Why is it that I think your next post will have numbers like 690, 890, ... (or even 880, 1280...? :) ) feature prominently?
P_Marlowe
For all of you who would bid 2♥, the auction continues:1♦ - pass - 2♣ - 2♥2NT - Dbl What kind of hand do you give partner? No idea. But actually I dont care, he hopefullyhas the tricks to beat 2 NT. Partner should have a fairly accuratepicture about my strength, assuminghe is not claiming "I always trust partner, and never the opponents", ignoring thefact, that it is nearly impossible, that one of the 1D, 2C and 2NT bids were psychbids. Codo
I really would love to see some partnerships between these:100% wrong, are you mad? [ 11 ] [28.21 and these:0% wrong, this is an obvious bid [ 7 ] [17.95%] :) My personal view is, that your pd must know, when you bid as weak as this and that he NEVER is allowed to hope for a single defensive trick in your hand. If he knows, you can pass his double of 2 NT. Else, better pass 2 Club.
helene_t
Of course you must pass the double. P could have a void hearts and a diamond stack. In fact he must have doubled on the misfit - if he thought you could set up your hearts against 2N he would not double, since that would just help opps getting out of 2N. Edmunte1
-2♥ as a lead director could work.-As about partner's double in 2NT, i'll change partner after this board.
JoAnneM
This is a negative free bid. You either have the agreement with your partner to play them, or you don't. Stick to your agreements. By the way, negative free bids are alertable.
helene_t
No, it's not a freebid, it's an overcall.
