Bridge Lingo

Recommended Posts

Hey-

I recently started playing bridge with a friend who is somewhere between a novice and a beginner. I have a partnership with another local guy and for the most part we do extremely well together in local events and have had decent success at larger tournaments, though we have yet to go to a national. Obviously, results with my new friend aren't that great but it's a lot of fun to play with her because I feel more like I'm playing a casual game that is fun no matter what rather than a game where often my fun is spoiled because I f*** up and get mad at myself. On another note, she's nice and smart... and cute!

Getting to the point, though, I'm giving her advice here and there using what I consider to be normal bridge language, though often she has to stop me to clarify what I mean and this got me wondering how many 'bridge words' there are in use, maybe some posters can teach me some new ones.

I can start a few...

Rounded Suits- +

Pointed Suits- +

Quacks- Queens and Jacks

Texture- The quality of high cards in a suit...

This is a pretty meager list to start off with but I'd just like to see what other people have to say

:)

Hmm, isn't texture the quality of intermediates in your suit? I.e. AK5432 has horrible texture, QJT987 excellent one.

I always get confused about that. "Shape" is easy. But, what is "body" and "texture?" One or both I thought referred to high pips, but now I'm confused. LOL

Shape is what my wife used to have

Body is what she has a whole lot more of now

Texture - hmm
