You open with MUD because you have to. Partner wins the diamond King with the Ace and cashes the Queen, you playing the diamond 7. Partner continues a third diamond (WTF?!?!?), which Declarer ruffs in dummy, ditching a club from hand. Declarer then plays a heart from dummy, partner mysteriously following, and Declarer sticks in the Jack.
Finch
We win the heart, cash our black suit tricks, whatever they are, and get our trump promotion. If partner has exactly one black ace, he gave suit preference on the third diamond. But if I don't trust partner, it looks as if he has the CA. If declarer was 1624 with a low singleton, he would have discarded the spade and taken club ruffs. Even with a 2623 without the SA a spade discard looks right to stop a possible spade ruff, while the club wasn't a lsoer anyway. All the evidence is that declarer is 3622 with the SA.So I switch to a count club to stop partner trying to cash two of them before giving me my ruff. Of course, that makes partner 1165 which is a bit strange (passing out 3H is very strange with x x AQJ10xx AQxxx to put it mildly). So maybe I should just stay confused.
