Chamaco
Hi all, today I have been trying for the last 2 hours or so to login in BBO with no success. Internet nbrowser and email clients work well, all the instant messengers I have work fine, and I have even been able to login in Chess Playing servers (FICS) with no problems at all. Briefly: the BBO client is the *only* internet application that does not work on my PC... :D Does anyone knows if it is related to the current BBO upgrading and/or server maintainance or is it only me ?? ;) Thanks anyone will contribute ! :)
inquiry
BBO has been up all the time today, so it is not that. Did you install the updated software today by any chance? Maybe something haywire there. BTW 2900 players online now Ben
uday
The bbo client connects to port 9999 of bbo.bridgebase.com using TCP If your client just downloaded and ran the upgrade to version 3.6.0, you may have run into a problem with permissions (from a firewall program on your pc) if you happen to be running one of those personal firewall programs (like Zonealarm, or the ones that come w/some antivirus programs) you need to find a way to tell the firewall program to allow c:\bridge base online\netbridgevu.exe to access the internet Some of these &**& firewalls fail silently when an application program changes (like BBO would have, as part of the upgrade). You'd need to find a way to configure the firewall to allow netbridgevu.exe to access the internet. Another thing you can try is to access http://bridgebase04.bridgebase.com:81/ If you can access this web page, your pc can connect to our server. The next question is, in that case, why not on port 9999, since connecting via port 81 succeeded? If you have changed nothing on your pc, and can access the web site above and have recently upgraded to 3.6.0 and have not accessed BBO since, most likely issue is a personal firewall

Thanks anyway for the suggestions :(
uday
One less likely possibility is that port 9999 is blocked on your PC (perhaps by your network, or your ISP ). The 360 installation replaces a config file. If you had edited the config file in the past to use another port number, the change would have been lost. Lets try using port 80, instead of port 9999 1. Make sure BBO is not running 2. Edit c:\bridge base online\bbover.ini3. In here, you'll see =9999 ; replace this with =804. Save the file5. Try BBO again. This might work because some Local Area Networks make it difficult to use "funny" port numbers from inside the network. Sometimes, though, they are already setup to allow port 80 to get through. By the way, i assume your BBO folder is indeed the default - c:\bridge base online\ - if it is not, or if you have moved the folder around by hand in the past, let me know. If this doesnt do it either, lets try a full reinstall: download and run the full BBO setup from one of the links on http://www.bridgebase.com/online/download_main.shtml and try that. uday
Here is the link for the older version of bbo http://bridgebase.lunarpages.com/~bridge2/v351_bbo_setup.exe If this installation produces a working bbo for you ( but pls try the more current one first ) we can leave you on 351 - but I'll need to know that youve dont this, so I can stop the server from upgrading you automatically. This is only a temporary solution, but at least you'll be able to get back on while we figure out why 9999 doesnt work.
Chamaco
Ty Uday :) But it did not work: replacing in the bbover.ini file the port 80 with 9999 had no effect (BTW: yes, the BBO files are in the default folder, all installations and updates have always being done in default mode). I already dowloaded and reinstalled everything before posting this thread, yet... nothing  I think I'll have some sleep now, for once in a while I'll sleep rather than play on BBO! :(
uday
Try this link http://bridgebase.lunarpages.com/~bridge2/v351_bbo_setup.exe
etherwiz
If you are running a ROunter (or a gateway (machine) that could also be blocking BBO. A router (or gateway pgm) offers an alternative for ports as well as aproval of ports. M interent service (Verizon DSL) does block most ports so this is always fun to check. Good Luck
Chamaco
After a good sleep this morning I was able to login again :)Hard to say whether the good sleep helped ME or my PC or my internet provider  , however I want to thank everyone that contributed, especially UDAY!!! :(
