Where we live

My concern regarding bidding 1 is that partner might lead a if opponents buy the contract and he is on lead...

I am not going to worry about that at this point. I know what you mean; say it comes back to me with 4 to my left and I decide to pass.

Yes, there is a risk that partner leads a heart from a holding that gives a trick away, but how can I be sure that he will lead a club even if I support right away? If I support, I don't promise a good suit, just like a 1 response does not show a strong suit.

Yeah, 1 I suppose, but only because we have an invitational hand, where heart support makes a big difference to the level we want to play at. If the hand was any weaker, or any stronger, I would be showing clubs first.

You might have a game in H and a part score in C, how hard a choice is this? Remarks about opening leads etc do not fly. Gee how many times have you held J5th of a suit and AKQx in another, does that mean you bid the 4 bagger first. Would it be any different if you actually had Qxxx in H, I think not.

Support with support does not override TELLING partner something that may be valuable to them in game going situations, which this may well be. Not bidding H is simply, not your decision to make.

I bid a heart; pard may have opened 1C on a 3 card crap minor. We can always show clubs again.

2D cuebid isn't the worse bid either; I would think that showing a major would be 1st in the queue after the cuebid raise in terms of strain - I don't think that the cuebid denies a major per se.

Not bidding hearts immediately does not mean that hearts can't ever be shown.
