Walddk
Hearts. I will likely get the chance to show clubs later if I get no support. Roland

P_Marlowe
Hearts, what else? I can always show clubs later,... I have no problems upto 3C. With kind regardsMarlowe
Rossoneri
My concern regarding bidding 1♥ is that partner might lead a ♥ if opponents buy the contract and he is on lead...
paulg
I show my hearts. As I said to my BIL session on Monday, the better the expert the more club fits they miss ... you just need to watch vugraph! Paul

Walddk
My concern regarding bidding 1♥ is that partner might lead a ♥ if opponents buy the contract and he is on lead... I am not going to worry about that at this point. I know what you mean; say it comes back to me with 4♠ to my left and I decide to pass. Yes, there is a risk that partner leads a heart from a holding that gives a trick away, but how can I be sure that he will lead a club even if I support right away? If I support, I don't promise a good suit, just like a 1♥ response does not show a strong suit. Roland

david_c
Yeah, 1♥ I suppose, but only because we have an invitational hand, where heart support makes a big difference to the level we want to play at. If the hand was any weaker, or any stronger, I would be showing clubs first.
TimG
Raise partner. Support with support and all.
mcphee
You might have a game in H and a part score in C, how hard a choice is this? Remarks about opening leads etc do not fly. Gee how many times have you held J5th of a suit and AKQx in another, does that mean you bid the 4 bagger first. Would it be any different if you actually had Qxxx in H, I think not. Support with support does not override TELLING partner something that may be valuable to them in game going situations, which this may well be. Not bidding H is simply, not your decision to make. ralph23
Raise partner. Support with support and all. Would you bid 1♥ if the ♣King and ♥8 were interchanged, i.e. if your round suits were ♥KTxx♣QJ8xx ?
skjaeran
At IMPs we make our living by getting to game if possible. If we have a 4-4 ♥ fit that's a far easier game to make than 5♣. So to me it's obvious to show my heart suit first. We can get the club suit into the picture later on if needed.
han
This may look like a unanimous panel but my partner was way ahead of you and bid 2D. It worked out all right because we landed in 3NT making (got some help!) while the other table went down in 4H.
keylime
I bid a heart; pard may have opened 1C on a 3 card crap minor. We can always show clubs again. 2D cuebid isn't the worse bid either; I would think that showing a major would be 1st in the queue after the cuebid raise in terms of strain - I don't think that the cuebid denies a major per se. Fluffy
1♥, I'd bid 2♣ without ♦A
Halo
I'd rather be playing methods where I can bid 2C to show this hand.
blackshoe
If I have read (and remember) their book correctly, Robson and Segal recommend fit jumps here, so maybe 3♥?
gwnn
A fit jump for a minor shows a good 5 card major and the appropriate cards in the minor (probably assuming 4 cards for a minor suit opening, even if 3+). So a 3♥ is pretty off.
skjaeran
If I have read (and remember) their book correctly, Robson and Segal recommend fit jumps here, so maybe 3♥? A fit jump on T8xx - I hope you're joking.♥KQTxx and appropriate ♣ lenght (depending on opening style) would be more like it.
