the hog
I really don't see much option other than 3C. I don't like the double with 3 small hearts and only 3S.

awm
I don't think 4♣ is a very good bid here. Pass from north is reasonable; if choosing to bid I think north should try 3NT rather than angling for an 11-trick minor suit game with balanced shape and so many slow cards. the hog
Ok. I'd pass the Nth hand - too many quacks. Might be the wrong decision. I guess you got caught in a cross ruff and pd was upset? Stiff, it happens.
jillybean
Yep, I didnt like the 4♣ bid, some expect more for a 3♣ bid.
han
Agree with 3C, don't agree with 4C.
P_Marlowe
Yep, I didnt like the 4♣ bid, some expect more for a 3♣ bid. You are certainly not min. for the call.Given that partner had no chance to bid,you could even be weaker. And as it is, 3NT makes. With your partners hand I would pass,4C bypasses 3NT, which is never a goodidea. With kind regardsMarlowe
Free
3♣ is pretty clear. 4♣ is plain aweful! (3NT makes, but quite impossible to bid imo)
Codo
I join the chorus: 3 ♣ is wtp.4 ♣ is no good idea. I don´t know what your borders are for a 3 ♣ bid. But the choices are3 NT or pass. 4 club is a nono bid.I think I had choosen 3 NT and reached a very bad game which luckily makes.
whereagles
some expect more for a 3♣ bid. MORE? If you allow me some James Bond pun, "The world is not enough?" :P
skjaeran
There's two possible bids by south in the balancing position; the mainstream 3♣ or an agressive 2NT. 2NT is in fact not as agressive as it seems at first glance. Partner will often provide a stopper - or the suit might be blocked. I prefer 3♣ but won't argue with anyone preferring 2NT. Over 3♣ north should either pass with a balanced eight count with quacks or try an agressive 3NT. I'd expect pass to be odds on, and I'd certainly chose that non-vulnerable. 4♣ I can't understand at all, you don't want to be in 5♣ with that north hand. Bang on: when I looked at the hand, my initial reaction was to bid 2N... and one of these days I am going to do it at the table. But 3♣ is the sensible bid, while 4♣ reveals a lack of understanding of the game.
