West North East South

 2    Pass  Pass  3

 Pass  4    Pass  Pass

 Pass

These overcalls are not going well, unlucky again.

Yep, I didnt like the 4 bid, some expect more for a 3 bid.

You are certainly not min. for the call.

Given that partner had no chance to bid,

you could even be weaker.

And as it is, 3NT makes.

With your partners hand I would pass,

4C bypasses 3NT, which is never a good

idea.

With kind regards

Marlowe

I join the chorus: 3 is wtp.

4 is no good idea. I don´t know what your borders are for a 3 bid.

But the choices are3 NT or pass. 4 club is a nono bid.

I think I had choosen 3 NT and reached a very bad game which luckily makes.

There's two possible bids by south in the balancing position; the mainstream 3 or an agressive 2NT. 2NT is in fact not as agressive as it seems at first glance. Partner will often provide a stopper - or the suit might be blocked. I prefer 3 but won't argue with anyone preferring 2NT.

Over 3 north should either pass with a balanced eight count with quacks or try an agressive 3NT. I'd expect pass to be odds on, and I'd certainly chose that non-vulnerable. 4 I can't understand at all, you don't want to be in 5 with that north hand.

Bang on: when I looked at the hand, my initial reaction was to bid 2N... and one of these days I am going to do it at the table. But 3 is the sensible bid, while 4 reveals a lack of understanding of the game.
