Guest Jlall
Hi Jilly, I like bidding 2S more than doubling with this hand type. Xing will make it hard to find 5-3 spade fits unless I X and bid spades which would be a big overbid. Doubling can certainly work well, but I think it's better to get my 5 card major in and hope for the best.
gwnn
If there is a game to be made, particularly 4♠, it will probably be reached only if we don't pass. There are two reasons for this: -we have the majority of HCP for that game-we have shorter hearts than p. he will look at his hand with 3 or even 4 hearts and say "look, partner didn't act over 2♥. that means he (she?) has nuttin." Jxxx Jxx KQx Kxxis certainly going to pass it out. a passed hand is not barred from reopening, but a passed hand with 3+ hearts is. As to why 2♠>double, it has already been explained very nicely. One more point: double would be a very good choice on some moth-eaten spade suit like 7xxxxQxAKJAQx even though this really starts to look like a pass. skjaeran
Even vs a light opener we might hav game here. So I'll have to make a bid now. Sure, if partner is broke it's going to cost. But I'll stick my neck out. 2♠ is my bid, for the same reasons given by Justin.
jillybean
2♠ it was. The result 2♠X-4 made me wonder about the bid, 2nd seat preempt should be been solid, partner a passed hand,Qx etc. Of course I got to play against the only EW to leave in the X :) [hv=d=n&v=e&n=s52ht973d642c9864&w=sat974hadkj93cq73&e=sjhkj8642dqt7ckj5&s=skq863hq5da85cat2]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] West North East South - Pass 2♥ 2♠ Dbl Pass Pass Pass lead A♥

Gerben42
Bad luck there Kathryn... West's Dbl is 100% penalty Dbl so in a strong field you would probably have a lot of company.

jtfanclub
2♠ it was. The result 2♠X-4 Alas, if you'd only managed to hold it to -3, you'd have had a top board!
han
Bad luck, don't let it change your call next time, 2S was normal.
