1C-(1D)-DBL

IMP's; S/-

You deal and hold:

Kxx=Axx=432=AQxx

Bidding goes:

1C-(1D)-DBL-(Pass)-??

You play with a pick-up partner on BBO, but suppose that DBL shows 4-4 in the majors.

What is your best bid now? Seems like you can't bid anything else then 1NT?

Holding Kxx=Axx=32=AQxxx you would bid 2C probably?

Thanks,

Koen

PS: I was holding this hand, partner was thinking and I hoped he wasn't going to DBL. luckily he choose an other bid.

I'd rebid 1, when having the choice between 3-card suits I always bid the lower one, unless there's a clear disparity between the suits.

As to Mike's comment - I'd never ever pass this hand as opener, whoever partner was. You have 13 hcp, 5 controls and an AQ combination.

I don't often play these methods (firstly, I prefer a weak NT, and secondly I like the double here to deny the majors - as recommended by Robson and Segal), so perhaps my opinion isn't worth much. But I would only bid 1NT here if I had the well stopped. How wrong can it be to bid 1 though?

Yeah...I gotta admit, change my bid to 1 heart. I'm convinced.

But no way am I bidding 1NT.

1H, it is only necessary for ONE person to have guaranteed 4 trumps in an auction like this, and partner has definitely guaranteed 4-4 majors with his bididng. Over 1H if he's not passing he can bid 1N or 2N or 3N with diamonds stopped since he has guaranteed 4M already. The only time you get into trouble with these auctions is when neither player has guaranteed 4M and then they will both be afraid to bid NT with 4M because partner may take them for 3 trumps. 1H is better than 1S since over 1H partner may have a hand that can bid 1S. On the second hand I am still bidding 1H.
