CSGibson Posted September 4, 2007 Report Share Posted September 4, 2007 I agree with your decision to open 1 diamond; If partner cannot respond, then you are probably in a fine spot, and it sets you up for the rest of the auction I think 4♥ is your next bid. Partner now knows your strength and shape, and is in a position to make an intelligent decision as to whether to move forward or not. I felt the hand had just too much for a 4♥ call, but maybe my requirements for a jump shift are lower than others. We hadn't discussed what 3♠ means, but going back to Josh Sher's excellent post regarding jump shifts of a few weeks ago, it should convey "doubt about strain". Pard actially held: ♠AT9x ♥QJxxx ♦Jx ♣Kx. Over 5♥ he just bid 6♥. We missed a good 7. He says 3♦ would have been a better call. I think I agree since it lets me pattern out. Hmm, he bids 6♥ over 5♥ and apologizes for bidding 3♠? Come on, he has a 7♥ bid over that, and at least should try 5♠. 3♠ is just natural for me, not sure whether that's what you are trying to say.
