really need a 'pair room'

Recommended Posts

BBO need a room for already formed partnership.

We are looking for some pratice so we want to play at least 20 boards against decent opps. I think its a reasonnable expectation and a common need. However its tough to get satisfaction. Most of the time it take us 25 min to find a decent pair just to see them quit when their tourney open. Sometimes the newly formed pair break up after 2-3 deals when a forcing bids is passed or the weaker player screw up the defense badly.

Brdige is a partnership game and when we talk of players most of the time we mean the partnership. (Meckwell, Fantunes etc)

So having a partership VS partership room is just common sense.

Ray's Bridge Ladder is the answer to your request. It has been there for 6-7-8 years now. Subscription fee ensures non-serious persons to stay away.

bridgeFILES and Ray's Bridge Ladder are the only 2 spots on WEB exclusively targeting upper segment in bridge.

You have never supported my proposal for premium service on BBO.

in my opinion Master Bridge Club is suitable for this.

Nah, MBC is TERRIBLE for this. You tend to get opponents who are not regular partners, which is not a good test for your system. If you want to join an existing table with an established pair, it's usually very difficult to get both partners in quickly enough that you get to play with who you want.

So what you end up with is a lot of established pairs making new tables, and playing against random people who show up for 2/3 boards and then wander off again.....

Would a functionality similar to tournaments in MBC help:

1. Two players register as a partnership.

2. As server starts a new table he can specify that opps must be registered partners. Such tables can be marked with different color on the table list.

3. As one of registered partnership joins such a table - his partner joins automatically.

Don't know how difficult implementation would be

This sounds like the Main Bridge Club. I've played arranged games with other pairs in the Master Bridge Club. It may be good to rename the Master Bridge Club to "Partnership bridge club" for this purpose.

Master Bridge Club hardly ever gets used, for whatever reason. Hovering in the Master Bridge Club hoping for a game with a regular partnership is not (currently) the solution. Images of tumbleweed blowing down the highstreet spring to mind.

If you have an arranged game it doesn't matter squat where you are playing it. The problem that needs solving is to have an area reserved for regular partnerships looking for a game. The Master Bridge Club might serve that function, but only if it were generally known that that was its function, so that all regular partnerships wanting a game with "pick-up" established partnerships naturally congregate there. Currently that is not the case with the Master Bridge Club. Whether simply changing its name would have that effect I don't know.

It would be worth a try, I think.

Such a partnership-club is more useful than a Master Club, I think - especielly as

a ) very few uses the master club. And the few arent always masters either. Sometimes not even experts.

b ) The overhelming number of masters apparently dont mind playing in MBC...

Simply Rename AND make some announcements to all or something... The word would spread quickly.
