12 board team game. AQJ, QJ98xxx, Txx void.

Pard opens 1 and you try 1. LHO butts in with 1 and pard tries 3. RHO bids 3.

FWIW, you don't play support doubles here - double by pard would have shown a strong NT.

Now what?

I went a little nuts here and tried 6.

Pard has short spades, right? Therefore, he probably has heart support or at least tolerance. Pard held: x Kx AQx AKxxxxx. They led a spade into my tenace. I ruffed a spade and knocked out the A - wrapping.

Then I woke up........ B)

Pard actually held: x9xx Ax AKQTxxx. -1

I hate when I get confronted with a decision like this on a first board of a match, but thats what seems to always happen, right?

Counterparts got to 6-1. No swing, but an opportunity blown.

My first reaction was to double, I don't know the vulnerability sadly.

I don't remember the vul (I was the 1 overcaller) but I know the hands were

So it looks like after AK of clubs you throw diamonds, ace of diamonds, diamond ruff, heart exit, and now they can't get to dummy to lead up to their spade so down 2. If the defense messes that up at any point it's down 1. The down 2 seems a bit lucky to me as it depends on the heart blockage.
