I would've doubled instead of 2...

My action now depends a lot on my partner. It's imo clear to lead trumps, but he might think otherwise. So I'll double if he's likely to lead trump, otherwise I'll just pass.

I think that double could be very dangerous here, we could have communication problems.

Your partner is a very good player so you can count on a reasonable lead decision. Of course, that doesn't guarantee a trump lead.

So you think that 2♠ is down or that 3D will make?

How would you rate your +100/+50/-110 results in 3D?

2S is down? It can't be played, they've bid 3D. What am I missing?

I think 3D will probably make. If it does, I'm not willing to play 3SX vulnerable to *save*. If it doesn't, pass is cool.

Do you think 3S makes when 3D makes as well?

(1) - 1 - (1NT) - 2

(2) - 2 - (3) - ?

What's your bid and how do you rate your chances for a good result?

Seems to me I've shown my hand, though I'd X the first time as well.

I pass. I rate my odds as pretty good of getting a good result, the 3 bid after the 1NT call implies that we've taken them out of their comfort zone. Perhaps not all people with partner's hand will rebid the spades.

Pass.

I wouldn't bid 3S with Ax, I'm certainly not going to do it with a stiff ace.

-110: not great, but better than -130 and -470

+50: probably good, we may have been down in 2S and other pairs may let 3D make

+100: probably good, i guess we found our spade ruffs on defense, other pairs who make mandatory trump leads on this auction may have missed them

You have no fit, no real extra strength, no length in their trump suit, and you have shown your long suit. How could anyone bid or double here?

Completely agree. If we can beat 3 we should collect a reasonable score.

Well, partner bid his suit twice VUL vs. NONVUL without you showing a fit or doubling 1NT. This looks like we should have points on the board, not them, as 2 directly would be weak. That is the reason why I ask whether you should settle for 3.

I think this is a much more difficult problem than the posters are making it seem.

I am assuming that my 2 bid was constructive but not forcing. My partner bid a second time in a live auction. He does not have a bad hand and he does have a good suit. The opps have a large diamond fit - possibly 10 cards. If pard has, say, KQJTxx of spades, a singleton diamond and a rounded suit king, we will make 9 tricks in spades assuming no adverse ruffs. And I expect partner to have at least that much, if not more.

Furthermore, the opps rate to make 9 tricks in diamonds. -110 is not going to look too good on the score sheet if we should be +140.

I do find the 1NT bid by my RHO to be disconcerting. What is his spade stopper on this auction?

Selling out to 3 does not look good to me. Of course, -200 in 3x would be worse. The question is, how much worse?

I am very tempted to bid 3. The only thing slowing me down is that 1NT bid. If RHO did not bid 1NT, I think 3 would be clear cut.

Pard probably doesn't have 3 clubs or 4 hearts. I would guess his most likely shape is 6=3=2=2. What does it mean that he didn't make a WJO? At these colors, it very well could mean he doesn't have a good suit. How would you bid: KQJTxx, Kxx xx Qx versus KTxxxx Axx xx Ax?

Based on this, it wouldn't surprise me at all that double was the winning call. At the table, I'd probably just pass like most everyone else.
