Double !
Game is imps (imp pairs)/ typical MBC game. You are second seat, nobody vul. You hold: ♠ 9643, ♥ 6, ♦ KQJ86, ♣ AT4. The bidding goes Pass on your right. Your call. Would you open this hand or not? If your answer is yes, what bid would you recommend? TIA: DHL
mike777
If this is a typical pickup main room game, no I pass in second seat.easy. ;)

gwnn
3rd in hand NV this is an acceptable 3♦ opener for me. Otherwise, never ever (that is to say, outside limited openings)
ArtK78
For lack of a better response, "WTP?" This is a clear cut pass in second seat. My second choice would be a weak 2♦ opener.
pclayton
I pass, although move my A♣ to spades and I open.
jtfanclub
You hold: ♠ 9643, ♥ 6, ♦ KQJ86, ♣ AT4. I'm comparing this hand to the hand Ralph proposed:♠ 5 ♥ AT94 ♦AKT7 ♣9865 On Double's, I have no rebid issues. I also have spades...I like spades. I think Aces and Kings tend to get overrated on partials. I mean, on a 4-3-2-1 scale they're underrated, but people tend to overcompensate. The 'heavy' scales include slam tries and suchlike, and I seriously doubt that if either hand gets passed out that we missed a game. Would you rather have AKTx across xxxx, or KQJxx across xxxx? I know which one I like. I think Double's hand is better on offense. On defense, Double's is clearly the worse hand, but that's more of a reason to open it. It also doesn't strike me as a hand I'd like to bid defensively. Doubling 1 heart risks us ending up in spades in a 4-3 fit with no honors, or at 3 clubs on a 4-3 fit. Overcalling two diamonds risks losing the spade suit. I don't like opening either of them, but I feel more comfortable opening Double's than Ralph's. If (outside of the singleton) it had two 10s and two 9s like Ralph's, I'd probably open it if I was feeling frisky.
pbleighton
This is very close, it would depend on my mood. I normally won't open 5431 10 counts, but the diamonds are very nice... With a pickup pd I pass, too many of them are rigid point counters, no sense in alienating partner on a marginal hand. Peter

Double !
I think this is not such a clear cut pass because of possession of a rebid as well as trick-taking potential. None-the-less, I passed the hand at the table, and the bidding continued 3 spades by my expert lho followed by 4 Hearts by my Partner. Do you take any action over 4 Hearts after rho passes? TIA DHL

TIA DHL It would have an easy rebid and trick taking potential minus the ace of clubs also. That doesn't make it good enough to open :D
cherdano
I pass but I am quite tempted, this could be quite a nice hand.

Free
Pass, although in a typical MBC game you might want to open 2♦...
skjaeran
Pass. And when a notorious light opener like me passes, this should be unanimous. ;) After 3♠ 4♥ pass I've still got an easy pass.
