a sayc question

Is here anybody able to tell me which bid SAYC sets with these cards in east:

KQJ104 AK1098 Ax x

in this sequence

S: pass W: pass N : 2 E: ?

Is in this position 3 a michaels cue bid? If not this would be the bid, showing

a strong hand not suitable for a double because short in .

But if 3 shd show 55m, wich forcing bid wd be right?

Thx

It depends on your agreements. The default agreement is, I believe

(2) 3 = running minor, asks for stopper

(2) 4NT = minors

However, if you're not sure what you agreed OR you're not sure what the standard agreement is OR you're not sure pard will understand your bid, the best is to stay out of trouble and bid naturally. In that case I would bid 3 with your hand, intending to pass pard's 3NT or bid some nr. of clubs if he bids something else.

I play leaping Michaels here (4m=GF with m+ 55+) and cuebid as basically stopper asking (in reality it shows a long solid suit and something in the unbid suit, could be bidding on after partner's response)).

Agree with other posters to overcall 4NT for the minors on this hand.

Hi,

most likely the situation is not covered in the SAYC

booklet, so the answer is - no agreement.

You can ask, what is standard, I would say 4NT for

the minors is, and the hand is on the border.

If you believe the hand to weak for 4NT, just bid 3D

hoping that the opponents come to help or partner.

With kind regards

Marlowe
