You hold:

[hv=d=w&v=n&s=sak74h732dt975cj7]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv]

The auction starts:

2* - pass - 2* - pass

pass - Dbl* - pass - ?

2 shows a multi with a weak hand, 5+M and poor strength

2 is P/C

Dbl shows a hand that would bid like the auction went 2-Dbl (so normal takeout - not balancing, probably 4, <4 and tollerance for unbid suits, opening values)

What do you do?

It's a very sound principle that take-out doubles must be taken out. I see no reason not to do that with this hand, so 3 it will be. Penalty passes are so rare that one is better off if one forgets about them.

I think the same, but at times I just get tired of too agressive preempt style like this one. You don't need the same hand to penalice a serious preempt from a joke do you?

I do think this is a more attractive pass than if the auction went 2 X P to me though, since I might not like partner's red suit lead in that case but in this case I am on lead to start something through dummy to partner's takeout double. Still I wouldn't pass, but it seems like that is a point worth considering.
