nickf
[hv=d=w&v=e&s=st2hj987djt974cq4]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] LHO deals and opens 1S (5+) and partner overcalls 1NT (15-18). RHO raises to 2S. Your call. Double would be takeout, 2NT would be natural. What are the competitive bidding factors influencing your decision? nickfsydney
Fluffy
I'd bid 2NT on my methods (lebenshol), I ain't strong enough for a take out double even if I play it.
Guest Jlall
I would bid 2N planning to get out in 3D. If I double partner is allowed to jump to 4H so I can't really do that. edit: sorry I'm a moron I just read fluffys post and assumed 2N was leb didnt see 2N was nat. Is 3x forcing? If I can bid 3D NF I would, otherwise I would pass.
han
Agree. We would like double to mean "just competitive, never pass partner" but that's not what it means for me.
Fluffy
edit: sorry I'm a moron I just read fluffys post and assumed 2N was leb didnt see 2N was nat. neither did I, the thing to learn is never follow me! I am ususally wrong hehe. I'd try 3♦, but then partner will bid 3NT as always.... I hate not having any agreement.
kgr
DBL for me....this is MP's. I hope (and expect) partner will not jump.If partner bids 3♣ I correct to 3♦ hoping that he still does not take me too serious.
jdonn
I can't double, partner might bid game, he might bid 4♣ over 3♠, and he might pass, which are all probably disasters. Given no lebensohl there is no choice but to pass.
bhall
First question: Is partner sane? That is, was he prepared to play 1NX, knowing that opener has 5+ ♠ and an entry? If he doesn't have either 2 stops or a ready-to-run minor, I would trade him in for a newer model. Since my hand suggests no running minor in his hand, I would bet on 2 stops. Let's defend. P_Marlowe
Hi, pass. Neg. X is out, a Neg. X should include the suggestion to go aftera penalty, and I am to weak for that. And to be honest my suits are notthat good (or my declarer play), thatI want to play them at the 3 level. I may bid, in case 2NT would showsome kind of 2-suiter. With kind regardsMarlowe
