nickf
[hv=d=s&v=n&s=sa9642hj5djt2cj65]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] You pass as dealer and LHO opens 2D Multi, being a weak 2 in either Major or an Acol 2NT. Partner bids 3C which is a good hand but ostensibly denies a hand short in either Major. RHO bids 3H correctible. Opponents are weak-ish, you and your partner are both expert players. Your call - do you pass, double for takeout, bid 3S or 4C? What are the competitive bidding factors influencing your decision? nickfsydney
Fluffy
I would pass, partner can be short in BOTH majors.
Codo
I would bid 3 Spade. I had liked to have a better suit or two HPCS more, but nothing is perfect. But I am not really sure what 3 Spade shows. I believe tha it shows a hand with club support here, with a own weak suit I had passed. joshs
I am definitely bidding, as 3C is normally a 6 card suit. In my normal style, 3S by a passed hand here would imply club tolerence (actually shows a fit in some of my partnerships) so is relatively safe, yet this is a pretty defensive hand so x isn't rediculous either. jikl
Nick, This is a flawed argument you have raised, you haven't mentioned what you have denied when you passed. I have seen some of the Multi 2 structures you have played. You are equal vul, and I am sure you have opened some ragged weak 2s in ♠ in the past, so more information is required. Given that you have denied a possible weak 2 in ♠, (or a flawed one), bidding 3♠ would show ♣ tolerance in my opinion. However, I am not bidding yet until I know what you have denied. :P Sean
nickf
However, I am not bidding yet until I know what you have denied. :P SeanGood point. I've denied:- any 6 card Major weak 2 appropriate to the vulnerability and form of scoring- any 5M-4m weak hand, again appropriate to the vulnerabilty. nickfsydney
