pclayton
Same match - last board. Red on white RHO opens a weak 2♦ in 3rd seat. [hv=s=saxxhdaq9xcakxxxx]133|100|[/hv]
Fluffy
3♣ looks obvious to me.

pclayton
3♣... I hope I do this in tempo. LOL; I won't tell you what I did, but it wasn't in tempo :)
markleon
3♣... I hope I do this in tempo. LOL; I won't tell you what I did, but it wasn't in tempo :) I believe it...it took me about 5 minutes of debating with myself to do this. In real life, I'm afraid I may sit there for 10 seconds, not be able to decide what I want, realize that I'm taking too long, reject 3♣ as effectively barring partner after my long hesitation, and grab the 3N card as a last resort. Come close? :)

skjaeran
This looks like such an obvious 3♣ to me that I can't say I can see the problem. Sure I'm heavy, but what reasonable alternative is there? I don't think I'd spend more than half the stop pause to decide this one at the table. kenrexford
3♣. If partner bids 3♦, I think my diamond stopper is sufficient.
han
Yeah I also bid 3C but I must say this hand is really heavy and I don't think 3NT is crazy (I tend to double first with a strong balanced hand).
pclayton
I tried 3N. 3C looks 'obvious' but considering most 5 counts will give you a likely 3N, its a big underbid. An old fashioned 4♣ is a good description too, but its probably conventional. Hearts also look to be 5=5=3=0 or 5450 around the table, so its likely pard has a stop - perhaps a slow one. Over 4N, pard tries 4N. Wow - as a passed hand.... Now what?

Over 4N, pard tries 4N. Wow - as a passed hand.... Now what? I think the inference about the hearts is not that strong, partner passed vul against not in second seat. There are lots of hands with 6 or 7 hearts he could hold that don't qualify for a preempt under those conditions. That is the factor that makes me dislike 3NT, as absent that consideration and the risk of partner trying to take me to hearts I like the bid. cherdano
I like 3N. It's the normal bid with running clubs and a single diamond stopper, so partner should have good reasons to put me in 4H instead. In fact, is he really less likely to pull to 4H after 3C 3H 3N? This is a normal bid with a non-running club suit and a single diamond stopper, which makes it more attractive to pull.
Guest Jlall
Josh if partner is correcting 3N to 4H with a bad heart suit he is a novice. There is a reason that you didn't X first.
Fluffy
If I bid 3NT and partner bid 4NT? My first instict is to bid 5♣, but I don't have the hand he will expect for that. Between pass and 6♣ its a blind guess, he can have ♥KJx or ♥AKx wich is totally different I think there are more hands wich fail to 6♣ than those wich makes. So I pass. Codo
I had been in the minority camp which bid 3 NT and I am in the even smaller minority and bid 6 Club after 4 NT.Okay this may not make but maybe it is not worse then 4 NT. Codo
maybe :) Like you said it is a gamble- and I am optimistic today.
