Mbodell
So anyone else see Prometheus? I have a couple of spoiler questions from that. 1. Why did the Engineers want to kill the us!humans that were based on the them!humans? Was this a cycle that repeated many times, or just a one of deal? 2. Was the android evil/bad on his own, or was he just following orders of the old guy? Would he have infected the doctor if he hadn't said he'd do anything to "meet his maker"? gwnn
I thought Prometheus was great! And finally a 3D film that doesn't show it off, it's just there naturally and enhances the experience subtly. Full disclosure: I have only seen the first Alien film. 1. I think this was left deliberately open by the filmmakers.2. I didn't think he was really evil. Personally, I thought he would not have infected the doctor had he not said the thing about doing anything. One wtf from me: since when are 'scientific expeditions' and weapons mutually exclusive? blackshoe
Hollywood has also been a bit schizo where guns are concerned.
mike777
thought the first half of Prometheus was terrible; everyone acts stupid except the robot which was the best part of the movie, second half was just ok. just saw the end of the world movie, yes everyone dies, pretty good movie but the Knightly character is very annoying. It is about two people who met 3 weeks before the world ends. It basically asks the question what would you do if you knew the world was going to end in 3 weeks. The first half of Prometheus was the good half, with the slow build up. The resolution was the let down (and the robot was the highlight). I didn't mind the intelligence of the characters being not great so much as I minded the inconsistent and unmotivated behavior. As for "Seeking a Friend For the End Of the World", I agree it was a pretty good movie, but I don't think Knightly is annoying. I also don't think the movie is at all asking the question of what would you do if you knew the world was going to end in 3 weeks. The movie is a bit overly obvious about its metaphor, and is a little heavy handed, but it is clearly about life and love and choices and all that everyday in our normal non-asteroid world. But yeah, if you don't like Carell and Knightly you are in trouble as they dominate the screen time. And the formula of an intense short time period of getting to know people while quirky encounters occur isn't for everyone, but I like it (see Nick & Nora's Infinite Playlist for a similar formula movie by the same screenwriter). Cthulhu D
The robot knows he is in a work of genre fiction and acts like it. It is extremely funny.

Speaking of robots, I just rented a movie called Star Wars and the robots were the best part and very very funny. I hope they make a sequal with them in it. will2012
I really liked Prometheus. We also say Bernie, and indie film, recently and I loved it.
Mbodell
Some recent films in rough order of enjoyment: Moonrise Kingdom was one of the more Wes Anderson of Wes Anderson movies, and great if you like his movies. Ted is really quite funny, if you like the sort of comedy you see on Family Guy. Brave was ok, but disappointing for a Pixar movie. People Like Us was a ok to good melodrama with a strong cast. The Dictator was decent, the most normal Sacha Baron Cohen movie, with some funny moments. The speech on democracy/corruption was clearly the highlight, but there were some funny other scenes but also some much less funny scenes. Battleship was way better than it had any right to be, and is the best movie ever made about a Hasbro product. It was still only average-minus. Snow White and the Huntsman was similar, but better, to Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter in that there were some interesting sequences and moments and effects, but the movie as a whole didn't really work. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter had some interesting moments and sequences, but didn't really all come together so was mostly a mess. I dont plan on seeing People like us though I really do like Chris Pine. Basically agree with your comments about the rest though I dont ever watch Family Guy, Ted was raunchy, adult and funny. kenberg
I guess I will see Prometheus and render a verdict. Think of me as the John Roberts of movie criticism. I first thought I would see Prometheus as it sounded interesting. Then I heard an interview with the director on NPR (Fresh Air maybe?) and he sounded like a pompous ass. But on the third hand my daughter dragged me to the first Alien oh so many years ago and I really liked it. Of course starring Sigourney Weaver didn't exactly hurt. On the fourth hand I thought Lost was stupid. On the fifth hand my wife really liked Lost. On the sixth ... Ah hell, maybe I'll just go see it. Mbodell
Sounds like you saw everything available except Magic Mike  Pretty much. I hadn't really heard much about Magic Mike (I'm not really in the target demo), but when I heard it was by Steven Soderbergh and it seemed to get decent looking reviews I do think I'll probably see it. My youngest daughter is in Magic Mike - Olivia Munn - and she also is in the HBO series Newsroom. Wow! That's cool. I'm loving Newsroom and I can already tell the sexy economist character is going to be a lot of fun based on the little of her we got in episode 2. barmar
Winstonm's daughter roles a economist... right.Aaron Sorkin has a history of casting against type. She did a pretty good job during her introduction on this week's episode -- much better than I expected based on what I'd seen her on before. Phil
Saw Moonrise Kingdom. Really enjoyed it. Unlike some Anderson's other films, the quirkiness doesn't get in the way of a really great story.

You could give her a call of appreciation for your brief moment in the spotlight. My wife says she looks good, I wisely kept my mouth shut.
