mike777
New kids movie: Saw Space Chimps 2 yesterday after my child dragged me to it. Review:Horrible. Not worth the time or the money. The 3D effects are poor as well. And this is not an adult's review of a kiddie movie. My kid was thorougly disappointed as well. Check out Toy Story 3.....4 stars, one of the best movies of the year. Also check out How to train your dragon.....very good movie.... OleBerg
Slightly off topic: My teen-age daughter dragged me to see:"Twillight-Eclipse" There is actually one scene that appeals to a grown up evil-spirited person such as I.
gwnn
Watched Toy Story 3. Very little 3D but all around fine movie, if a little dumb.
JLOGIC
Saw Cool Hand Luke. Paul Newman is dreamy. Oh I thought this was the old movies thread :o

When your son gets nominated for an Emmy you are allowed, even expected, to stray off topic a little. Congratulations to him, I will see if I can catch it. JoAnneM
We saw the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo - beautiful movie, well acted, I usually don't like subtitles but wasn't a problem after a few minutes the story was so good. I can't imagine the U.S. version being better.

y66
My wife and I saw The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo recently. Both liked it. Noomi Rapace is pretty believable as a dark, avenging, ass-kicking, brainiac, punk hacker. The scene where Blomquist asks: What happened to you? and the one where she visits her mother really got me. Some people will not like the graphic violence.
Hanoi5
A couple of weeks ago I saw 'Happy-Go-Lucky'. If you see it around my advice is: RUN AWAY!!!
gwnn
seen Memento again last night. now officially my favorite movie ever. agreed ... Christopher Nolan is very good ...seems like "Inception" rocks Don't know, I could follow the movie just fine, but I don't like that most of the last 1 hour is just a giant action scene, like a music video, or a movie trailer. Mind you, I similarly didn't like The Dark Knight, especially the end seemed extremely rushed.

The plot was a bit predictable, but the actors were great and the setting/mood was terrific.
gwnn
still wouldnt it have been a little better if (mild spoilers) their first idea of convincing someone to break up his inherited company was not "yay let's make a huge action scene with a lot of shooting and stuff!!" ? And the makers were markedly reluctant to accurately divide time intervals by 12 gah.
OleBerg
Saw the last hour of "The Forgotten" on TV. Thought the last few Nicolas Cage movies had set a new lowest standard. I was wrong.
Ant590
I thought inception was the best movie of the year so far. Kind of a cross between The Matrix and The Sting (two of my favourite movies).

Kind of a cross between The Matrix and The Sting (two of my favourite movies). I thought Inception was a good movie...but really not close to the Matrix or The Sting. :Lets not go overboard...:) To be fair a movie has not come out this year that compares to them. :) This year already there are movies better than inception out at your local multiplex...see them. Oh goodness no, it isn't a patch on either of those films! I was just meaning I felt there were similarities in the plot and style. I haven't seen many films this year, but Inception beats the ones I have seen (for instance I thought Robin Hood was shockingly bad). y66
What did you think of Invictus? I loved the rugby scenes but other than that it seemed like it could have been much better. Matt Damon had a paper thin character but he was pretty good while Morgan Freeman couldn't make this role memorable enough.and much shorter. Good story but not enough in it for a full length feature imo. That scene showing Mandela's prison cell was worth seeing. Just watched Ghost Writer by Roman Polanski. Can't remember the last time I saw a movie as bad as that one. Script, acting and scoring were all awful. Some decent photography. Saw A Prophet a few days ago. That's easily the best movie I've seen this year. If they ever make a movie out of Blood Meridian, the guy who plays the Corsican mob boss could probably handle the judge's role. And the guy who played the prophet could play the kid. They make quite a pair.
Lobowolf
The Other Guys...second half slows down a bit but is still funny. The first half is hilarious.
Cyberyeti
New to this thread, did anybody see KickAss earlier in the year. Not what I expected from the trailers, much darker, less funny (although it had some seriously funny moments), but none the worse for that, I really enjoyed it even if the first 20-30 mins was a little slow. JoAnneM
Saw "The Young Victoria" starring Emily Blunt and Rupert Friend last night. Beautiful movie, beautiful costumes (won an Oscar for that). Now waiting from Netflix on the shelf are It's Complicated and Everyone's Fine. A couple of movies I chose and quietly moved up in the queue. :(
