kfay
[hv=d=s&v=e&s=sk76542hk10dq104ck3]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] I passed this hand 1st seat and probably set a record for the strongest pass of my life: Pass - Pass - 1♣ - Pass 1♠ - Pass - 1NT - Pass 2♦* - Pass - 2NT - Pass? *Regular NMF Now I regretted my initial action but wasn't sure how to move on, thoughts? TylerE
Abstain. Would have bid 3♠ over 1NT
jdonn
This hand is a perfect example of an obvious system improvement that no one seems to use, which has been published by Marshall Miles. If playing regular NMF, either by a passed hand or always, 2♣ should always be the NMF bid even if the opening was 1♣. That way when partner doesn't have four hearts or three spades, he can just bid 2♦ rather than 2NT, and this hand could follow up with 2♠ and not risk going to the three level to show its spade length. In addition, it's actually more valuable to have a natural 2♦ bid than a natural 2♣ bid, as they will never let you play in 2♣ when you have a fit there anyway. In the given situation, I like your first pass and I like pass now. I don't see why you regret your initial action, it seems to have kept you out of a bad game presuming partner is showing a minimum and doesn't have three spades. Trumpace
What is wrong with passing in 1st seat? Values are too scattered. I would not open this. is NMF forcing to game or just one round? In the case of latter, passing 2NT seems right.
han
I opened 1S, we had no trouble finding game :).
neilkaz
I wouldn't open this acelwss 11 count with no stiffs and a weak 6 card suit, but rather than NMF, I show my 6 card invite with 3♠
skjaeran
I opened 1S, we had no trouble finding game . Agree. I'd never pass this hand.
jdonn
I opened 1S, we had no trouble finding game :). Agree. I'd never pass this hand. I could be misinterpreting, but I take the smiley after "we found game" to mean that the game they found did not make :)

I don't know NMF, but on my view 2♠ would just mean I want to play in 5-2 rather than NT. French play 2♣ as limit+ relay and 2♦ as sing off since I have memories of bridge (14 years). It is not NMF though, they only focus on finding responder's major fit. Eventually trying 4-4 in hearts at the 3 level later (it happened very few times that I can remember)

Guest Jlall
I would definitely pass now.
the hog
I would have opened the hand. Given that I passed initially, I would pass again now. I certainly would NOT bid 3S which should show a far better suit.
