Guest Jlall
I'd go with 4H.
han
Kevin gave me this hand yesterday, I thought it was very interesting (including the follow-up). I bid 4S. I think that partner is not likely to hold an ace (as well as KQ of trumps), and if not, the 5-level might already be too high.
skjaeran
I'm aming for game only, even the 5-level could be too high. It's very close between 4♥ and 4♠, which both might be the winning bid. There could be problems getting to the ♥ tricks in a ♠ contract, but the same applies to ♠ tricks in a ♥ contract. I think the latter might happen more often of the two, and thus I raise to 4♠.

kfay
Regardless of whether you bid 4♥ or 4♠ two passes follow and RHO bids 5♣ (remember everyone's red). Now?

I raised to 4♠.I've just got the values to make a forcing pass, I believe. But I'll still double. Chances for beating them twice is quite good. ulven
Yes, double now - and for me pass wouldn't be forcing.
cherdano
I bid 4H the first round and double the second.
kfay
Everyone seems to be taking the low road on this deal... prepare to suffer the consequences: [hv=d=w&v=b&n=sq109xxxxhxxxdaqxc&w=sxxxhjxxdxxxxxcax&e=skhd10xckqj10xxxxxx&s=sajhakq10954dkjxcx]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] For your efforts all those who would double 5♣ get 200 whereas those who go on can score upwards of 2210 (assuming you're not doubled). Partner's void and diamond holding are the cream of the crop for you, but do you expect much less when he's 2nd seat vulnerable and he's missing 2 spade honors (and presumably clubs and hearts as well)? When I played this hand several months ago I was sitting North and my partner passed 5♣. I doubt he has ever heard of a forcing pass but I bid 5♠ on my void presuming that my partner had bid 4♠ to make due to the complete lack of bidding. This was passed out!! At the other table the bidding went: Pass - Pass - 5♣ - 5♥All Pass Making 7 for a push on missing grand slams -- albeit, bad ones -- at both tables. Not my cup of tea at either table... thoughts? han
I think north should raise 5H on the second hand. 3-card support, a void and AQx.. should be enough. If south bids 4H on the first than perhaps north can pull the double of 5C. Anyway, you can't play bridge assuming that the opponents have 10-card suits. When they do have those hands you often go wrong.

My 2nd seat preempt aren't better than 1st seat preempts, they are just more pure. 2nd seat all vulnerable I would open KQT9xxx x xxx xx without second thoughts. ulven
That's just plain sick to open 3S on that hand. But what is my view worth any way? ;)

Codo
This hand is a fantastic example why it is easier to bid if your preempts promise pure suits and few outside values. If you know that pd can have this hand, you may search for a slam, but most posters "know" that their partner will not hold 6 HCPs in diamonds and two in Spades for a 3 Spade bid.
