Echognome
Yes. This is a nice hand. I'm going to be content with a small slam here and in case partner's bid was based on tricks, I'm going to bid 5NT as a choice of slams. Edit: I actually have some methods here, but I'm assuming no such agreements. My regular partner and I would play: 4♣ Why did you bid 3NT?--4♦/♥/♠ Because I have long running ♥/♣/♦ and a stopper--4NT Because I have a big balanced hand--5X Because I have a very big hand with this 5 card suit (cue = monster)--5NT Because I have a very big hand with no 5 card suit4♦/♥/♠ Showing long ♥/♣/♦4NT Blackwood (Invites ask with 4♣)

Guest Jlall
with no methods I would bid 6N. With methods I would transfer to hearts and bid 5N (choice).

I think that I like it. Out of curiousity, what does a step response over 4X show? For example, lets assume that we have the following auction (3♠) - 3N - (P) - 4♣(P) - 4♥ - (P) - 4♠ Where 4♣ shows a running club suit and a Spade stopper... Does 4♠ ask for the length of the club suit or the type of Spade control or what?

We found that we were ahead of the game just to have some methods and didn't worry much more about it.
pclayton
I like to play with my regular partners over all 2N and 3N overcalls that the following are transfers: (3♣) - 3N..: 4♣ = diamonds. Ranges from a weak hand with many diamonds to a hand that is making a slam try. 4♦ = hearts 4♥ = spades 4♠ = transfer to the cue. In this case, its Stayman with a very good hand. On this particular hand I would transfer to hearts and try 5N. I think the hand is just too good for transfer / 4N. Partner rates to have better than a bare 15 count here.
