jim420
(This was actually my p's situation) you play neg dbls [hv=d=e&v=n&s=sj4hq9865dk432ca5]133|100|Scoring: IMPW N E S- - P 1♣1♥ ?[/hv] Do you make a trap pass here or bid (say 2♦ or any other)? pbleighton
Edited, misread auction. 1NT. Peter
1eyedjack
I think this is quite a nasty problem. Pass is a reasonable choice, as is either 1NT or 2NT. Not sure why you suggest 2D as a possibility, that would never occur to me, and having occurred to me I would never bid that. I think in the end I would pass, provided I can do it in tempo. May well hitch first though, which buggers it a bit.
P_Marlowe
1NT. Being red vs green I am not reallyinterested in going after 1H. With kind regardsMarlowe

cherdano
Looks like a normal 1N to me.
skjaeran
Looks like a normal 1N to me. Agree.Passing could be right, but I's prefer to have the ♥T to go for penalty. Only 1 down (or even a make) is a distinct possibility. And I don't think +100 is good enough.

jdonn
1NT. Pass is another option but 2♦ is not.

the hog
1NT. The H are not good enough by quite a long way for a trap pass at the one level.

han
The heart spots are of course great for defending but I think I would also bid a mundane 1NT.

I would have thought it was a mundane pass until I read the other answers.
han
Well, this is an interesting hand to me, could you explain why you think pass is better? I understand that the hand is really not that good on offense, but I'm worried that I won't be able to show the strength of my hand on some follow-up auctions. 1eyedjack
I'm worried that I won't be able to show the strength of my hand on some follow-up auctions. That is to my mind the strongest argument for bidding NT. Not the fear of missing a vulnerable game, and not the fear that 1HX might make, but the fear that you may not get a chance to pass a 1HX to show your hand. Not sure why 2NT is dismissed out of hand. Sure, it may be a level too high, but by the same token 1NT may miss game. And being a passed hand, 2NT is not going to be misinterpreted as showing more. I am not saying that I am heavily in favour of 2NT, but I don't see it as that bad either.

neilkaz
I am also in the 1NT camp. This is a routine 10 HCP hand, nothing special about it to make me want to push it to 2NT, but with 10 HCP I am accepting any invite PD makes. If the opps were vul, I might pass and try to go after 1♥ but then I may have to guess if they run to ♠ and PD doesn't double them. .. neilkaz .. pclayton
1N is kind of obvious. Pass could work of course, but the hands I really want to defend 1♥ is when pard can't reopen.
