How do you play?
ralph23
Wow, partner thinks I'm the greatest declarer since Watson, I guess, to raise me on this. :) ... oh well, anyhow.... I think the best plan is to budget to lose zero ♠, the Ace of ♦, and two trump tricks. That means I'll have to ruff one ♠ and toss the other on the King of ♦. I'm going to assume (Card Placement by Assumption) that West has the Ace of ♦, but I think that's a pretty good bet, since I'm missing KQ♥ and QJ♦, and East probably has a couple of those for his weak 2 opening.... if he had also the ♦ Ace, he might have opened 1♠. So: t1. Win the Queen of ♠ in hand. (Assuming East just played low.. doesn't matter anyhow). t2. Lead the small ♦ toward the King and let West take his Ace. t3. West leads his other ♠ now (assuming East started with six of them). I ruff it in dummy. t4. Lead the ♦ King and ditch my final small ♠ on it. Now I've just got to keep East out of the lead, else he'll give West a ♠ ruff. t5. Lead the remaining trump from dummy. East plays low. Now what to play from my hand.....hmmmm....If the opps trumps are evenly divided 3-3, then I think I'm home free, however I play... I can play the Jack, let West win his top ♥ honor, win the return, play the Ace of trump and another trump (which they win), and I'm done... I've lost the Ace of ♦ and two trumps. However, If their trumps are 4-2 (West holding the long ♥), I may be cooked, unless East has the 9. So probably the better play is, 8 of ♥ from the board, and duck it in my hand, hoping West wins with the K or Q. This doesn't cost me anything, as if they are divided 3-3, I think I always make it....

If east has 9x of trumps he should cover the eight from dummy. But it does give you an extra chance anyway running the 8, so it's for free. And if west's got KQ9x you'll be going down whatever you do. Patapon
Wow, partner thinks I'm the greatest declarer since Watson, I guess, to raise me on this. ... oh well, anyhow.... Yes he thinks I am Watson..Normal he is my husband :) He explained I should have a residual Spade suit as West didn't raise to 3♠ over 3♥ and as he was in a pass hand I must be strong to bid at the 3rd level. t1. Win the Queen of ♠ in hand. (Assuming East just played low.. doesn't matter anyhow). t2. Lead the small ♦ toward the King and let West take his Ace. t3. Now I've just got to keep East out of the lead, else he'll give West a ♠ ruff. t5. Lead the remaining trump from dummy. East plays low. It is what I did actually.I played Diamond at trick took. But West didn't lead his other Spade but play Clud instead.Clubs were 4-1 and I went down. [hv=n=s7h87dk8652ck7654&w=sj2hk652daj9cj1032&e=sk109864hq9dq1074c8&s=saq53haj1043d3caq9]399|300|[/hv] I took the Club and ruff a Spade in dummy then played the 8 of Heart to the 9 and the Jack.West played Clud that Est ruffed and played Spade again:( I have thought about this hand and I have found yet any layout where it is useful to play Diamond at trick two. I should have played a small Spade ruffed immediately, then Heart from dummy.Playing the Ace of Spade firt doesn't work if West helds J2, K952, J974, J103.West could ruff with the nine of Heart and I couldn't avoid to loose an uppercut in Spade later... SoTired
take spade, ruff spade. heart to A and duck a heart. This works whenever hearts are 3-3 or ♥Hx. Only fails to ♥KQxx

Only fails to ♥KQxx And what happens when East wins the 2nd heart and continues a 3rd round of spades? Won't they win two high hearts, a spade ruff, and the Ace of diamonds now?
