pclayton
Matchpoints (weak field), all vul: [hv=d=w&v=b&s=st8xxxhdaxxcat9xx]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] 1♣ on left, 1♥ by pard, pass on right. FWIW, pard's 1♥ denies four spades.FWIW #2, 1S is a one round force Edited August 10, 2007 by pclayton
ArtK78
I bid 1♠. And if anyone bids 1NT and it is passed back to me, I will bid 2♣.
pclayton
I bid 1♠. And if anyone bids 1NT and it is passed back to me, I will bid 2♣. Are you absolutely sure 2♣ is natural?
Echognome
I pass for now and XX if lefty doubles and righty passes. I don't like where 1♠ might lead us. My length in clubs is worrying.
Foxx
1NT, because everything else sux. Against a weak field, I might make two, and run away with the board.
the hog
This is an obvious pass. It looks like a misfit and my S are too weak too bid.

jdonn
I bid only because with two aces I won't be a hopeless dummy if partner rebids hearts, which is what he always seems to do in these situations. Change either to like a QJ and I couldn't pass fast enough.
ArtK78
After my 1♠ bid, 2♣ by me is natural.

Agree with Art, and yes, 2♣ by me IS natural playing with my regular partner. Also agree with Justin that 1♠ is obvious.
Halo
1S Good enough to make an effort to improve the contract.
mcphee
I find it hard to understand why this hand is some sort of problem. Failing to bid 1S is ridiculous. I also find it unreasonable to say the H overcall denies 4 card S, fortunately that would never be a style I would adopt.

You don't have to agree with it Bob.
pclayton
I passed at the table, but felt it was very close. Pard actually held: ♠Ax ♥K7xxxx ♦Kxx ♣Kx I'm not sure what he would have done over 1♠, although he claimed he'd bid 1N. He played it very nicely (his RHO had 2=4=2=5 I think) and we were +110 for about a 70% board. Obviously many pairs are getting overboard in hearts. Part of the reason I passed was because if pard is short in either black suit, he'll be able to elope a few times with my aces. I also wanted pard to stay off a spade lead, although its dubious we'll be on defense. I also agree 2♣ by me would be natural, mostly because we discussed it afterward. In retrospect I think I prefer 1♠.
han
1S, even when forcing.
