I dont like the 2H overcall, I would say

a Michaels Cue of 2S is better.

 

It is unclear, if you reach 6D, but you

will have at least a chance.

I think it's very hard to reach 6♦ on these hands. You were even left more space than many wold have when east bid only 2♠ instead of a direct 4♠. I'd not be too unhappy going +800 here.

Exactly...and I do clearly prefer 2♠ Michaels (or whatever) to 2♥

Its conceivable to get to 6, but you need a little help from the bad guys:

 

(1♠) - 2♠ - (3♠) - 3N

(4♠) - 5♦ - (pass ) - 6♦

 

1. 2♠ is Michaels

 

2. 3N is pick a minor. Yes I know 4N is possible, but this hand is so slammish, the extra room could be helpful.

 

3. 5♦ has to show something additionally useful. With a minimum dog, the cuebidder can pass and respond to 4N.

 

6. 6♦. Could be down opposite: x, AKQxx, Qxxxx, xx, but it could make 7 opposite: void, AJxxx, Qxxxxxx x. I think most of the time 6 is a good bet. 1-1 in the blacks seems likely, as does 0-2.

 

I can't see getting there unless the opps show you their spade length.

I like the Michaels cuebid here too - not only does it place pard well in the auction, but the 4S preemptive raise doesn't hurt you here since pard is going to find a 4NT bid to ask for the minor followed by a raise.

I'd rather play that the double asks for partner's minor then that the 3NT asks for it. After all, there is only one way to get to 3NT while there are two ways to get to 3SX. (I know, that doesn't make any sense but I thought it was funny)

Back to the hand, I think south might have bid 6D (or 5NT) once north bid 4NT, but I actually think that 4NT was an overbid, I would expect a better hand.
