jdulmage
I noticed with the beta of 3.6.0 out, you have a spot in the tournaments for entry fee and you have a spot to buy BB$. Does that now mean you are requiring people to pay to play in the tournaments or what? As a fellow TD, I am just curious on the matter. inquiry
This is a new feature that will allow fee-for-service tournments. The most likely application is to collect a little bit of money to pay fees to run ACBL-sanctioned events for people who want to play for ACBL points. You will notice that this is an option, and I am certain the vast majority of tournments and virtually all team games will continue to free. inquiry
Hi Ece, I don't know how you would charge for a tournment.... but I do know how you buy BB$. Click on your own name from the lobby then click on BB$ account information. I think it will still be awhile before fee-tournments start. uday
Short Answer: No, but we will allow some TDs to charge an entry fee. It will be up to each TD whether to charge, and how much to charge.I expect that we will see a mix of free tourneys and some pay tourneys (certainly the forthcoming ACBL tourneys will not be free) Long answer: The next version of BBO ( the one we're testing ) will have some basic commerce capability; specifically, 1) the ability to purchase BB$ 2) the abilty to spend BB$ on "certain things" What things? To start with, the BBO Bridge Master deals that are on the Bridge Master CDs will be available online (for a price, of course). Second, the server now has the ability to charge for downloaded content, in general. Of course, at the moment the only commercial content is the BM deal collection, but that will change as we put our other CDs online Finally, the server now has the ability to charge an entry fee for a tourney. This is an option of the tourney host. However, hosts that want to charge have to be authorized (by us) to do so. We expect that all such hosts will be lumped into "families", or "types"; so we might have a type=ACBL, another for BBO_ITA, another for Spwdo, who knows! Currently, there are no such authorized hosts. First, the new release to all users. Then, iron out any kinks with the simpler commerce (BridgeMaster hands). Then, run some commercial ACBL tourneys Then, allow TDS to charge for their own tourneys I expect that TDs who want to charge will have to come up w/some mechanism for inducing payment. I think a regularly scheduled event is a start, and...who knows!
spwdo
hi, answering ece in his question how, when u create a tournement that option is displayed in the edit tournament box, a thought however , how anybody is going to handle the problem of (dis)connection, i have been playing in msngaming zone in their private bridgeclub but while playing there i saw very rarely a player been disconnected, makes me wonder if players on bbo are asking then a refund when they were disconnected for whatever reason, its all in future but those where the first things that came in my mind when i saw this entrance fee option just mindspinning but hey whats a forum for greetings marc
Trpltrbl
At least when you enter a fee tournament most players will be serious and not ask to leave after playing 2 or 3 hands because they found a better game or just didn't feel like playing anymore. And as for disconnection, you pay you play and if disconnected you still pay but don't play nomore  Mike
