Guest Jlall
http://www.amazon.com/Backwash-Squeeze-Oth...s/dp/0061127647 This book is a novel basically about the world of bridge (no hands etc). I had a similar concept a while back to do something like this and am glad someone did. He includes names of people that are real, and also includes real stories, sometimes giving people assumed names. I even saw a couple of stories about me LOL (though my name was not mentioned thank god). Anyways I think things like this will go a long way in attracting new people to the game similar to the recent documentary.
Badmonster
Do you think it will be widely read, and prominently reviewed? I, of course hope so, but, I'm not sure it will happen.

I ordered it and the Wall Street Journal reviewed it last week I think.

Well, the Wall Street Journal doesn't play bridge yet, and if the novel would achieve in getting mike777 seriously interested in bridge... :P

From what I have read about it, the book isn't really a novel but rather a first hand account of one player's bridge experiences. Sort of like Word Freak was to Scrabble. markleon
Salon posted an excerpt: http://www.salon.com/mwt/feature/2007/08/0...html?source=rss If the book is anywhere near as fun to read as Word Freak, I'll be very happy.
paulg
The advantage that Word Freak had is that many of the top Scrabble players are seriously weird, especially the American players. As I tell them, bridge players need to find at least one other person on the planet that they can communicate with: Scrabble players are under no such restriction. Paul(bag carrier for the only woman with a serious chance of winning the World Scrabble Championship).
jtfanclub
I hate the title, but the book sounds interesting. Why not call it "My other, older woman"? That would make it sound a lot less like a collection of bridge hands than the actual title.
