I have a blind spot

Cascade

Recommended Posts

I am looking at the card combination:

AQ9x

J8

The best play is apparently to run the jack and if it loses to cash the ace and queen.

However it seems to me that 10xxx, 10xxxx or 10xxxxx in front of dummy are more likely than K10 or K10x behind the dummy.

In a suit contract,

If the K is on side, running the J and with RHO covering means 2 tricks.

If the K is off side, running the J with give you 2 tricks.

Even playing small to Q gives you 2 tricks.

I don't think there is a best, just play as needed in the situation.

In a no trump contract however,

the same as above.

But there is an extra chance. You could also try playing a small one to the J. If it holds the K is probably off-side, You should then play the A and a small one back. When there is Kxx with LHO, you'll win another trick with the Q, making 3 tricks.

So maybe running the J is not the best after all??
