BBOTV - feedback

I wasn't able to try this out until just recently, but I'm experiencing the same issue as cherdano. in a span of about 30 minutes I was disconnected well over a dozen times, and was only able to witness about 1.5 full hands collectively in that time.

I have no issues connecting with the windows client from the same machine.

last night I was able to stay connected from a Vista machine on the same network, so this morning I tried it again from my main machine (Ubuntu/Firefox) and it seems to be keeping the connection fine.

*shrug* not sure if it's something you did, or me (I don't honestly think I did anything...) but it seems to be "fixed"

- Resizing of windows is not kept in next session

- I think it is better to have default sizing changed: show some part of people window. That makes it easier for new users to find it.

- bbotv does not work for me in internet explorer v7. It works in Netscape.

If you click the Logoff button then most of the key sizes of things that you set will be saved.

They will not be saved if you close your browser, refresh the page, or navigate to somewhere else without clicking Logoff.

;)

What a nice idea. Everything which can be used until now works fine. Of course there is much to do. As far as I can see nobody mentioned the missing sound!

I will have a look now and then and hope, "BBOTV" grows up fast.

Good luck Fred and Uday

Fred, I think you may have missed another post of mine! ;) (The main problem was being able to see partner's alerted explanation of his bid.)

Anyway, I haven't reloaded the page at all during the last few days, but noticed that the font for the people browser text has changed (Impact it looks like?). So that change came through automatically. The font is pretty much unreadable on my screen, as it's so tiny - could you put it back to whatever it was before, which was very easy to read?

That's been fixed, but we won't be deploying a new version that contains the fix for at least two more days.

Today I logged into BBOTV and asked it to take me to a table with lots of stars. It took me to a table with one star playing. Then I asked it to take me to a table with lots of kibitzers, and it took me to the table where the Granovetters, two stars, were playing. Why did "lots of stars" prefer a one-star table over a two-star table?

My thought here isn't a bug per se as much as a functionality request.

Fred, is it possible to get our handles at the top of our queues when we log in, so we can edit our profiles?

Hi Dwayne,

There are a lot of functions in BBOTV that has not been implemented at all yet, is only semi-implemented, or is fully implemented but not thoroughly tested enough to release for use on our production servers.

The ability to edit profiles falls into the category of semi-implemented. To be more specific, I have created a UI component for doing this but Uday and I need to agree on a protocol to use for profile-related messages and then we will both have to create code for sending/receiving such messages. That may sound complicated, but it probably won't involve more than an hour or so of work (famous last words).

I expect we will release a version that allows people to edit their profiles and sign up for new IDs through BBOTV within the next couple of weeks, but this is not going to happen in the next release (which I am hoping will likely be on either Friday or Monday).

The question of how people will enter the facility that will allow them to edit their profiles is another issue. Right now my thinking is to have a "My Account" button on the navbar at the top of the screen (like the current "My Hands" button). Clicking that button will open a window that will allow people to edit their profiles, manage their BB$ and MB$ accounts....

I think this makes more sense that including your ID in the lists of friends/enemies/stars.

Anyways, I can assure you that we will deal with this in some way and of course we will try to find the best possible way.

The flag for "other" has been changed from the UN flag to the Chinese Taipae Olympic flag. Perhaps not such a great idea. Strictly speaking the UN can only be used with the consent of the UN and obviously the Chinese Taipae Olympic flag isn't what should be used. I'd suggest either a generic "BBO Logo" flag, the WBF flag or don't give people an "other" option

I'd really like it if folks were mature enough to be permitted set their own images. (I'd love to be able to use my SCA heraldry as a flag). Regretfully, my experiences at OKB suggest that enabling options like this will almost imediately lead to fights over what is/is not appropriate content.

In the mean time I think that the BBO flag should default to the following.

Saw an interesting thing today, my 3rd time using the BBOTV client.

Used the "First available seat" option and was taken to a game where my seat was dummy.

The software sat me, from my perspective, at the top of the screen. Partner was in the 'south' seat and I was kibbing both hands as he/she declared.

When the hand was over, the seats rotated so my hand was located at the bottom of the screen as normal. However, there seemed to be a disconnect between the bidding display and the seats.

The bidding was now out of alignment. According to the compass (and the marks by my name) I was sitting E. However, my bids were being displayed in the S column on the bidding heads-up.

Not a huge thing, but a bug to be sure.

Thanks for the bug report. I will investigate. If the fix is easy and safe as I expect then I will install it, maybe later today.

As you probably figured out, we are trying something new here: the dummy sees the hand played from his partner's point of view.

No doubt some people will complain "I want to be able to see all 4 hands when I am dummy", but the ability to do this in the Windows client (as an option but one that is only respected in some contexts) causes all sorts of problems.

But I have no idea how loud or frequent these complaints will be. This policy is certainly not written in stone, but my guess is that it will be a good thing and I hope that most of the BBO membership will agree.

Thanks for the note back, Fred... And thanks again for letting us all play in your sandbox.

As probably the worst player on these forums, that works for me. I need all the chance to think about declarer cardplay as I can get. B)

In the client version, I believe you can check a button that allows you to set how the hands 'rotate' when you're dummy. While I have no issue not being able to see opponent's cards, it would be nice to be able to control the perspective at the table (rotate when dummy or not).

Thanks, again,

I joined using version 3, to play at a "pickup" table in the relaxed room, no seats reserved.

I could see all 4 hands while seated - while the auction was in progress.

I told this to the table, and a redeal was suggested and accepted.

I could then see all 4 hands of the next deal.

At that time I thought I had better leave B)

I am pretty sure I have fixed this, but if you are currently logged in using BBOTV you will have to refresh your browser window(s) in order to pick up the change.

Hopefully I did not create any new problems in the process - it looks like it might be one of those days...

I have tried version 3 and have had some problems for the first time by using BBO TV. It started with login, to complete this.. it took +- 4x more time than later the login to the windows client. I was pretty long freezed by changing the tables I kibbitzed, after these changes I saw only things like "white shadows" of the moved cards at the table... maybe all that "produceed" by my PC..I dont know..

To Rona and Arberlour:

When such things happen you might want to try things like:

1) Refreshing the page

2) Clearing your browser cache

3) Exiting your browser

4) Restarting your computer

Rona's symptoms suggest a slow or poor connection (not necessarily on Rona's end).

Arberlour's symptoms suggest that Arberlour's PC is in a bad state (low or memory or some other vital resource).

I just played a hand at a random pick-up table and could see all 4 hands throughout the bidding and play.

I thought I fixed this. Can you please try clearing your cache, refreshing the page, and trying again?

If it happens again, please try to notice how many other people were at the table when you arrived.

Thanks,

Friends list - The back ground Dark Green is OK. The font in blcak is not enough contrast and hence a strain on the eye. A lighter font like Grey should make it better. ( Grey may be a problem to show Friends who are "Away from Table")

How do we find out who is the Host of the Table?
