fred
Can you add in the "Show Played Cards" option? And if so, does the design of BBOTV solve the problem that the Windows client has with restoring this option after you've played hands? Another request for "show played cards" - Actually, since many people will be using the BBOTV option to kibitz, not to play, and surely some of them will be relatively unsophisticated, I'd vote for "show played cards" to be the default. :) I am sure there will eventually be an option for "show played cards". barmar
In the Hand Browser, please sort the Other Tables list by the scores, as is done in the regular BBO movie window. Also, I think it should use the same format of displaying hands (diagram versus pictures of card) as the user has chosen for the main window -- I think it's unlikely a user would have different preferences depending on whether they're looking at a hand being played versus an old hand. bradd
Actually I have different preferences for the hand format, so would prefer it left as is. The only thing that would be helpful is if the hand browser window would stay the same size throughout the session, if the user enlarges it (which I do). Otherwise I think the whole thing is superb (colour choices included) and I'm really looking forward to the various enhancements as they appear. barmar
Yeah, I agree with remembering the hand browser size. On my 12-inch iBook, the default size of the browser results in an unreadable font, so I always have to enlarge it. The running score needs the score of the last hand, then I'd have less need to open up the browser. Stylistically, everything looks very nice EXCEPT the box that pops up when someone claims. It's a huge rectangle with just one line of tiny text "So-and-so claims 5".
cherdano
Some random comments:- "Take me to a table with lots of spectators" often leads to the table of a certain personality who has been discussed in various internet fora way too much. I am not sure this is how you want to introduce the potential hundreds of thousands of new BBO users to "our" place. :( - Maybe this is a generational thing but "TV" has a bad connotation to me and I suspect many others: TV = traditional, non-interactive, very little choice, highly uninformative; internet = interactive, find the stuff you are really interested in, etc. So (especially once the flash client is similar in capabilities to the existing client) IMO a name change would indeed make sense... - Personally I like the mouse-over events of the old client, but obviously you have given this a lot more thought than I have. The only case where I think it worked badly is for the explanations given by FD, which were often missed by less computer-savy users, or computer-savy-but-often-distracted users. (On the other hand, mouse-over events don't work with touchscreen gadgets, some of which promise to become very popular, so maybe that is where you are heading...) - I am wondering whether there are already mobile phones with sufficient flash support to run BBOTV. (If so, organizer of tournaments with VuGraph better take notice immediately...) - I have no idea whether this is possible or feasible (given pop-up blocking) but I would prefer to have the myhands/movie window as a separate browser windwow. Similar to mink's point above if I understood him right, but for the movie window I care more since I like to have it open all the time while playing, and now it covers the playing view instead.[Also, on my system it is infinitely slow to drag along the window within the flash application, not sure whether this is peculiar to my setup.] Obviously the graphics of the new client aren't quite finished yet but it seems they work much nicer in many ways, rescaling etc., I am actually looking forward to the day when I can play using the new client just for this reason... firmit
Nice Fred! Works perfectly on my IntelDuo 2 Core 2,16GHz Ubunty Feisty 7.04 with Firefox! I have a widescreen 19" 1440:900, and the graphic looks nice. Agree with the other post about borders etc. Is this going to be a supplement or is this going to replace the existing client? I really like the idea of watching vugraph's - without installing a client. What I really would like to see - is a FULLSCREEN option. This would be nice to have in the vugraphs - which then would hide the chat. I'd also would like the option of getting the chat in a detachable pop-up or alike, so I could have that in a different window...but that might be a little tricky?! Also - there might be issues about the option of having multiple logins open at the same time. It is easier to have control over this with a client, but on a pc with several different browsers... you get the picture.
fred
Thanks to everyone who has made posts to this thread. Your comments have been very helpful and your general enthusiasm for BBOTV is appreciated. It is very likely that we will announce a new version of BBOTV in Forums within the next few days. The new version will probably allow you to: - log in with a real BBO user ID (as opposed to anonymously)- see lists of friends/stars/yellows- define people as friends/enemies/neutrals and to maintain notes on other members- see profiles of any BBO member (even those who are not online)- join most tables- play (but only in a "help me find a game" sense)- chat None of this is written in stone - sorry in advance if the next release takes longer than expected or if it becomes necessary to disable some of the functions in the above list. I have also incorporated several of the suggestions made in posts to this thread. Sorry I have not responded to every post. I promise I am reading them all. paulg
The new v2 version loaded correctly, without prompting or cache clearing, on my Win XP system running Firefox. Paul
mr1303
Just tried the new version, and it seems pretty good. However, the issue is with the claim function. I can't work out how many tricks whoever is claiming is trying to claim. Any chance we could have it back to the method that the previous client used? G_R__E_G
Hi Fred, The new version picked up automatically and allowed me to log in with my ID without a problem. Regards.
paulg
The friends/hosts/kibs/stars area takes up a lot of my screen space and I'll need it more as it is the only way to see who is kibbing at a table. Each name could probably be half the current size (on my 1024x768 screen). Cheers Paul
keylime
Version 1.0.2, for lack of better naming convention, worked on my iMac, WinXP laptop and desktop, and on my Vista devices. Didn't notice any dropoff or interruption of performance. 1st Edit: Like the hand diagram a lot; I prefer this greatly versus the regular cards. 2nd Edit: The chat interface does not interfere with my KeyScrambler software on Firefox; the client sometimes will spit out junk when I type until I bring focus back to the client. 3rd Edit: Fred, is it possible to increase the font sizes for alerts? They are quite tiny compared to the larger and I think richer texts.

sceptic
only comment so far Fred, is I think the friends, Hosts etc names are to big it does not look nice to my way of thinking and the Flag also does not downsize when you re size that area, it just cuts the picture off

fred
THe 'FIND' button only allow me to find friends, stars, kibbitzers and hosts. How can I find a neutral member to add him on my friend list for example? You can type his/her ID into the space at the right of the Find button and then either click Find or hit the Enter key. You can also use this technique for seeing profiles of people who are not currently online. The sizing of the elements in the people-browser definitely needs work. Sorry I did not test at enough screen resolutions and until this morning I was never able to use this on our production server (where the lists have a lot of people in them). Uday and I do all of our work on a test server where there are typically no more than a few people logged in at a time. Probably I will put out a new version within the next day or 2 in which the proportions in the people-browser are improved. Patapon
You can also use this technique for seeing profiles of people who are not currently online. Patapon
- Lists of friends/yellows/stars will appear in the panel at the right of your screen. You may need to create some space for this panel with the control that allocates horizontal space between the 2 panels at the top. If you can't figure out how to do this please make a post in the comments thread. I need to create some space for this panel.I created a nice space with proportions I liked. Unfortunaly the software doesn't remember filter setting and I have to do it each log in.:)

It is not surprising that the Flash client is not being prevented from doing some things it should not be allowed to do (like seeing an invisible table or joining a table where no kibitzers are allowed). There are a lot of cases to cover and it is hard to test all of them. That is one of the reasons we try to get help from Forums readers :) Eventually we will get all of these things right... awm
It seems like BBOTV is disconnecting me a lot at the moment. I tried it earlier and it seemed more stable. Either this problem has something to do with server load or the like... or it is somehow related to private chat (I was trying to chat with a friend online, wasn't trying this on previous logins). I'll see if I can isolate the problem any better...
uday
awm: I'm seeing probs on "level3" , a network that stands between you and us. I'm guessing this is why you've been singled out for the booting. a network trace of your IP address just shows the 2 sides struggling, sending the same data several times (both directions) before the other side acknowledges it. barmar
I hade to clear my Safari cache to see the new "I want to play" and "I want to kibitz" windows, but now it looks OK. When not at a table, the "Kibitzers" tab is so dim that it's unreadable. I think it should be greyed out, but not so much that you can't tell what it would be if it were enabled. cherdano
I reproducably crash when I right-click on a player name in the chat window. Maybe the font size problem for the friend list has to do with screen resolution? On my screen (high-resolution), their size is just completely out of proportion to everything else (let me know if want a screenshot). Joining one table (I think a tournament) I had everyone rotated by 90 degree counter-clockwise, i.e. South on the right. Was quite funny, took me several moment to figure out what was confusing me. :)
uday
When you crash, do you see some output that might or might not be trying to explain what/where the crash occurred ? Or does your browser just blink out ?
Trumpace
This thread is too long. It is daunting just to check and see if a bug has been reported before. Anyway, in the newer version of BBOtv, where you can login with your id and play at a table, there seems to be a bug in the claim feature. I was declarer and I claimed. It got rejected. Now I could see the opponents hands...
