Echognome
For the 2nd problem, what is 1♣ and what is 3♣?
helene_t
1) Dbl, 2nd choice pass. P has not shown spade support so I'm not going to bid 5♠. P's double of 4N invites me to double 5m if I can. I lead a hearts and maybe I'll get a ruff (although opener is likely to have a stiff ♥ also. My club holding is probably worth a defensive trick as well. 2) 3♥, forcing. Not double with a void in the enemy suit if there is an alternative.
Edmunte1
1. Pass2. 3♥
neilkaz
1) PD's double of 4NT invites me to cooperate in doubling them and shows that he bid 4♥ to make. I am not gambling 5♠ (yuck..the 5 level X'd is for them when I am unsure of support) and clearly doubling 5♦ and leading my Q of ♥ 2) I bid a forcing 3♥ and my only question is whether I we will be playing a small or grand slam and in which suit. If PD punts into 3NT , I will bid 4♠ showing my slam forcing monster (I cannot believe that PD has too many HCP wasted in ♣ here after the opp's preempt in ♣). .. neilkaz .. ycos
1)pass2)3♥ and my 2nd bid is cue in ♣ even @ 6th level(i play 6 anyway)
SoTired
1) I pass, since I don't have any diam to cooperate in a penalty dbl. I can't bid 5H and 5S is insane. 2) 3H - a simple forcing bid showing our best suit. It is tempting to bid 4C to show our void and power, but that skips a whole auction level and does not find out if opener has heart support or 4-card spade suit. P_Marlowe
#1 X, maybe it makes, maybe not#2 X, given the vulnerability, this seems clear, lets see, what develops, I still can bid hearts I may miss a non vul. slam, but 800-1100 is also nice With kind regardsMarlowe
neilkaz
If they make 5♦x here I need to have a serious discussion with PD concerning what jumping to a 4♥overcall and then doubling the opps 4NT T/O for minors means. Yes I do see the vulnerability, but that doesn't totally prevent opener from competing, and if PD was bidding to make and has some defence, I suspect opener's PD is nearly broke. .. neilkaz .. Echognome
On the second auction, is it obvious to everyone that 3♣ is natural? (I mean other than looking at your hand.) Imagine that you ask lefty and he says "Diamonds and Spades" or "both majors", etc. Doesn't that change your strategy?

Imagine that you ask lefty and he says "Diamonds and Spades" or "both majors", etc. Doesn't that change your strategy? I hopefully have asked about 3C.I always do, if they bid our suits. And no, it is certainly not obvious, that3C is natural. If it is artificial, I double as well, lets seewhat partner has to say, in case they try to find a fit. Robert
Hi Echognome The first post stated that 3C was a "preempt in clubs", why argue with that statement? I play that it asks for a club stopper for 3NT. Regards, Robert

In that case, you have to stick with your original plan. By the way, I don't know of many people that play such an agreement.

Robert
Hi everyone I assume that your 'expert' partner was self rated? He appears to be a 'results' player. One that results only after the hand is over and he has looked at all four hands. He doubled 4NT to show good defense and doubled 5D to show good defense against that contract. You have a huge hand to 'defend' with if the 'expert' has anything near what his two doubles showed. Regards, Robert
