LMP, session 4

han

Recommended Posts

We are south this session.

1. KQJ109542Q84K6, N dealer, unfavorable.

1C - 1S

2D - 3S

3NT - ??

Over the reverse, 2S would have been non-forcing (not showing extra length), and 2H would be an artificial GF.

2. JKQJ52AK4K974, W dealer, none.

You open 1H and... Oops!

Your out-of-turn bid is not accepted and partner is barred from the auction.

It goes (p) - p - (1C) - ??

The 1C bid was extremely slow.

1) 4C, obviously GERBER (ok ok, cuebidding for spades). I'm willing to stop in 4S after 4D-4H-4S.

2) I'm tempted to bid 1H to see if the opponents bid spades (in which case I'll try to play 4H, or maybe pass), or if they don't (in which case I'll try 3N, or pass). If the opponents are clever though it gets very dicey... If I give them a lot of respect I'll just bid 4H, otherwise 1H.

1. I considered 4C but I thought it was too risky. My partner probably wouldn't take it as Gerber but as clubs. I decided that 4H was safe but no, that got passed out. My partner had 8AK10J975AQJ75, a bit light to my taste. As you can see you should stop in 4S.

We didn't let this board take us down though. We both apologized and I don't think it affected the rest of our game.

2. I guessed 4 and saw my partner table: KQ754A10973106J. WDP!

Righty bid 1C on an 8-count. Surely he was trying to trick me but he shouldn't have done it so slowly.

4 may very well be misunderstood. It might be technically the "right" call, but 4 usually works. 4 cannot be misunderstood, notwithstanding the reality that it was misunderstood.
