I doubled, but in retrospect I think I was better passing. How close is this hand to a takeout double? Alternately, how close is it to a pass? What should I be thinking when bidding this hand? P_Marlowe
Hi, #1 would you double for t/o, if they opened 1H a good rule is count your HCP outside their suit, add shortage points for shortage in their suit, if you reach 14 make a t/o => The hand is to weak (using the mentioned rule, you reach 12) Another factor to consider, which suit do you promise primarily, ... spades. Having min. values and only 3 card support should point toward passing#2 Does your side have enough strength to make game? Facing a passed hand, holding a hand below opening strength, the answer is no (or game is unlikely), which is another pointer toward Pass. With kind regardsMarlowe
Finch
It is very close, but I would pass.If LHO were not a passed hand, the pass is much more obvious.
SoTired
Too weak for under gun X. With a passed hand partner, unlikely we are missing game, so why risk a 4-3 3S contract when we might set 3H.
ralph23
Too weak. Just pass. I'm not that optimistic about setting 3♥ but it's possible. On the days where we can set it, partner is probably going to get too excited if I double, and he'll bid 3NT. Grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory....He will not be pleased with the dummy.
