P_Marlowe
Hi, #1 E/W were just lucky, not smart, if 2H gets passed out they would have missed a reasonable game, so even the blind may find some gold sometimes#2 4D is what? East wants to save against a partial on the 4 level? #3 3D by North is what? If he really wants to compete he can simply X, which is a lot safer and sometimes South is sitting on 4-5 good hearts and a max. 1NT call.#4 I dont mind the final double, it does not really matter, NS had the chance to ensure that OW received only 170, so if 4H makes they already have lost 250 or 450, so the add. loose is not much (with regards to IMPs). It seems, the only guy having a clue about what he does is West, but only if he had East seen bidding before the way he did. With kind regardsMarlowe
helene_t
I dislike the double: N already showed his hand, what new information is the dbl supposed to convey? But E's bidding was funny. Either he's drunk or he applied Zia Mahmood's tatctical underbid trick: persuade the opps that he's getting pushed into game instead of bidding it voluntarily, thereby making them double. W's biding was very bad, and I cannot explain it as a Zia-stunt. It looks pointless to me.
SoTired
I think everyone was drunk. The whole auction was insane, so how can I pick out a particular bid.1) East passing 1HX is poor. How is East going to convince West of East's strength and fine support if East passes? But based on the XX, maybe West knew East bids like this.2) North's 3D. Aggressive, but could be a disaster. If South does not have diam support, no place to run. 3D Looks like remorse for not overcalling 2D originally. 3) South's 4D on a 4333 and 7 HCP. Insane. Do you want to push them to a makable 4H contract? Or get killed in 4D? Is your pass button broken?4) 4H - more insanity5) X - insane and stupid. I guess the thinking is if they make this, we get a bad board anyway.6) XX - beyond insane. My only conclusion is that everyones pass button was disabled. DWM
I like the first 4 bids, including the two passes. Would never hide a 4 card support for P. based on the bidding so far I am not that much against Easts 2♥. But then I am not that good at hand evaluation. The 3♦ is far too risky. If I ever made a bid like that I would find P with a2-5-2-4 hand with most of his points in hearts Easts 3♥ seems to be a stretch to try and catch up with himself after the first pass I assume the 4♦ was made to give EW a gift in the hope that is encourages them to bid like this in the future West must have a good understanding of East with the 4♥ bid, and a bit of luck on his side. The double is probably one made on the assumption that when someone is in a game contract they do not deserve to be in they should double. The redouble could be a redouble for a laugh as P is playing it, or one to try and put extra pressure on oponents.
