Tournaments

Recommended Posts

Players currently playing at any table shouldn't be allowed to join a tournament. I think a player suddenly leaving a table in the middle of a hand isn't fair to the other players and surely not polite at all. Obviously anyone can leave anytime, it can't be avoided, but subscrition for a tourney appears to be a special case. Thanks for attention and cumpliments for the great job done at BBO. Regards.

hi,

personal i have to dis agreed with that, otherwise u would see +200 registerd pairs and 4 tables showing up, people seem to lose track of time once they started playing , i tell players in advance when playing in main bridgeclub that a tourney is coming up shortley, seems to be not more then the polite way of dealing with it

greetings marc

I agree with Roberto, annoying for someone who is playing suddenly to disappear to tourney. Some people register while they are sitting down for a game though, what happens then?

I think when someone is registered in a tourney AND playing at the same time, maybe within 5 minutes of tourney start time software will start sending him annoying messages like "Attention : You are registered for xx tourney in 5 minutes. Please stop playing as soon as possible" This message will repeat itself every few seconds, private chat to him. He can still ignore that message of course, but it'll just annoy him :D

;) And maybe this annoy message also include do you know where you partner is?

I agree with Brroberto and Rain...

Rude is rude. And signing up for tournament is no excuse to do rude. I like idea of warning very much... maybe display at table vs private so it is clear this person is leaving.

Tee hee do you think "This is last board for <player name> since Tournament Xyz is starting in 5 min" is to explicit?

I notice we run some % of off line players... so if you tournament is full let us say 200 pairs and tournament start and you 94 tables!

Is it possible to maybe do underlying back up list of 5-10%? this way if players is missing then program go to back up list to fill up to tournament limit. Maybe give players option to do stand by of x% if tournament is full?

hi,

this messages would be a great item, but still i find it palyers resposiblilty to be polite and say it yourself, i dont think cancceling their tournament registration woud be anice thing to do either, but very much agree with solution mentioned earlier, want to state that i dint disagree but just find it normal way of saying other players that a tourney is coming up, i do it , seems fair but obviuosly several miss this courtusy:(

I think it's a good feature to suck players into tourneys as it is now, but it's also true that leaving to a tourney in the middle of a great contract can be very annoying. But I'd leave it as it is now, because tourneys are more fun imo, and I'd give tourneys the benefit of doubt...

What about, instead of notifying the player who should already know he is registered for a tourney, having a notification for the host "this player is registered to play in a tourney in x minutes" come up along with their profile when a player tries to sit at a table where permission is required? That way the host could make the decision of whether or not to allow someone who will only be there for 20 minutes or so to sit, and can automatically reject the 5 minute or less bouncers who are particularly annoying.

Hmmm. I have only played in a few tournaments (perhaps too early in the tournament development cycle); however, I find I much prefer to play at a bridge club table. There may well be others like me. Why should our game suffer to promote tournaments?

Having said that, I tend to prefer to setup a table with the foursome agreed ahead of time and to play for a reasonable length of time (one to two hours, sometimes a bit longer). I find when I ask people I've marked as friends, I sometimes get a response such as, "I'd like to but I have to ... in a few minutes" or "I'm just about to get sucked into a tournament".

Seems like common courtesy. It would be nice to have the system provide some safe guards similar to the ones suggested by others. My own preference would be something like:

- The system prevents a player who is registered in a tournament event from sitting at any table if there is less than x minutes before the event starts (and make x something like 10 minutes, not 2!).

- When a player that is registered in a tournament event can, and does, sit, then if the tournament is closer than y minutes, the system sends a chat to table "XXX is due to play in a tournament in yy hours and zz minutes.". I would make y something like 30 or 45 minutes.

If the system keeps any statistics (average time a player sits at one table, average time a table persists, percentage of players who are yanked from a table for an event versus leaving for other reasons, etc.), then it might be possible to make educated choices for x and y.
