pbleighton
3D was an overbid opposite a passed hand. Aces... where are the Aces I will need for game? So I would have bid 2♠....yes, it is a maximum for 2♠, but when we start upgrading ALL maximums, they are no longer maximums, they are minimums for the stronger bid.. and this is still just a maximum 2♠. Agree. I think 3D would be a overbid opposite an unpassed hand, as well. This is a problem you face when you overcall at the one level with real crap (as I do all the time). Your *minimum* range becomes wide. Wayne, I'm thinking your thought process may have gone something like "I would have overcalled with a king less than what I have, I can't just bid 2S". Oh, yes you can :) Just because you overcall on real crap (good and common practice, IMO), doesn't make the present hand any better. kgr
How should the bidding go with East as dealer (North not a passed hand)?3♦ by South and 3♠ iso 4♠ by North and this is passed by South?
mike777
Yes, even if North is an unpassed hand, this is still a 2 spade rebid. 3D shows more than a mimimum opening hand, even if we just overcalled. North can always bid again over our 2s sign off is she wishes. Our first duty is to tell partner our overcall is less than some nice 13 totalpt hand in spades. Once we limit our hand, we can go nuts if the bidding continues.

No, the south hand is still not worth more than 2♠.
