mr1303
1. IMPs, Love all ♠ K53♥ --♦ Q9875♣ K10643 Partner deals and opens 1♣, RHO passes. Your call? The issue here as I see it was whether to make some sort of pre-emptive raise in clubs, or to bide your time with 1♦. A pre-emptive raise will be useful if the opposition will be interfering, but there are many hands partner could have where a slower approach would be better. Marks etc are ready, and will appear shortly, after the hand is available for discussion.
helene_t
2♣. Too strong for 3♣ and too weak for a splinter. If this allows p to bid 3N with a balanced 14 I'll probably regret my bid.
jtfanclub
Huh. Put me down for 1 diamond. My hand looks strong enough on offense to make a minimum club bid later, and it will be much easier to describe the hand later if I bid a diamond now. Gerben42
Both 2 and 3♣ don't appeal to me, I bid 1♦.
P_Marlowe
1D. I have no fear for interference, interference hurts sometimes, but can also help. With kind regardsMarlowe
Foxx
Two clubs. The distribution puts our hand easily in the range for an inverted-minor raise of clubs, even if partner has only three. The drawback is I will have to soft-pedal later. In particular, as of yet I don't know if I will have the fortitude to sit for three notrump. Echognome
Is 3♥ a splinter? Anyway, I will bid 2♣. I don't see the point in not showing support immediately.
Dwingo
3C - Who has all the majors? It is more likely that my pd has 4 card Heart. If Opps finds a Spade fit, I have good defense. My first duty is to push the levelhigher.
Fluffy
I don't remember what I sent to the poll hehe, today I would bid 1♦ ;)
mikeh
1♦... and I really don't understand any other call. We don't know much about partner's hand... even how many clubs he has is a mystery. If LHO passes, partner's rebid will help us a great deal. If LHO bids, and whether or not RHO adds to the competition, we can almost certainly make a descriptive call next. 1♦: the partnership bid. skjaeran
No need to make any guesses at this time. 1♦ and await proceedings.
mr1303
Well my initial feeling was that this one was close. However, no club raise felt quite right (2C may get us to a no-play 3NT too often, and 3C will lead to missing a game when partner plays us for less than this), and as a result I've given 1D full marks. 1D = 1003C = 702C = 405C =
Guest Jlall
1D and see what happens. Will probably be jumping to 3C next.
