hrothgar
Each year, sometime way to close to the 14th of February, the the bridge federation in Iceland holds the Icelandaire Open. Given that I am currently flush, I'm hoping to get a team together for what has always been a very fun and very silly event. Ideally, I am looking for a strong partner who is willing to play MOSCITO, along with a couple of good team mates. Here's a few comments in advance: 1. My play level is erractic. When I'm on, I play play a good game. When I'm off, my defenses can be (charitably) described as humorous. Even if I'm on, I'm not good enough that I expect to be in to win either the pairs event of the teams event. If you sign up, you're doing so for a fun weekend of bridge, the chance to gorge on smoked salmon, and all the smoked lamb tongue you can eat. 2. The Icelanders throw one hell of a party. I've always been favorably impressed by the level of hospitalty. Equally important, they have their ***** together when it comes to to the administrative details in running a tournament. Rounds start on time. Dealing machines are used. 3. Based on past experience, I strongly suggest that everyone carefully research the rules regarding importing tequila, whiskey, scotch, and other forms of hard liquor in to Iceland. One the one hand, you don't want to get caught with too much booze. on the other hand, an ample supply with ensure that you are everyone's best friend. if any of this sounds appealing, give me a shout... helene_t
Hi Richard, I'm not an ideal strong partner but if told half a year in advance I'm willing to play anything (except Roman carding. And "Dutch Acol", of course). Not sure if I can convince my IRL partner or anyone else to come to Iceland but I'll give it a try.
Gerben42
Sounds interesting, I will think about it (not minding Moscito at all and never been to Iceland and all...)

skjaeran
I don't think I'll be going to Reykjavik this time, and if I do it'll be with my regular partner. I've been to Iceland four times (once playing for Norway in the Nordic Junior Teams Championship) and three times for the Icelandair Open. I recomend the tournament for all interested. Great hospitality, well organized and quite a strong field with several internationals playing. Last time I went there we managed a trip to the Blue Lagoon - outdoor bathing in a natural pool with naturally heated (volcanic) water - quite an experience. We managed a trip one morning before playing bridge, but it's better to spend an extra day in Reykjavik!
