I can't sign into BBO

Last evening was our Club's busiest evening session and delayed the start of the session. A number of players couldn't get in getting the 'critical file message', as well as no mention of the rooms.

Eventually, I managed to get our session started and then was promptly thrown out as Director for 45 minutes being unable to get back in.

This is quite unacceptable and I am dismayed no-one from BBO seems to be contacting us or admitting there are problems.

We clearly have a recurrence of the previous situation where things are not coping at 7 pm UK time which coincides with the start of afternoon sessions in the US.

This problem has been happening since the clocks went backwards in the UK the other week, and there is no acknowledgement or messages being sent by BBO during the sessions or via the message system.

I am raising this with our National Bridge Organisation as well. Something needs to be done urgently. BBO is starting to lose Clubs to alternate providers (we are going to look at them now as well) and unless things improve, we will have to consider moving away.

I have had an iMac problem for several weeks and have posted messages on the appropriate forums, but again no reply.

This lack of action/interest from BBO may cost it dearly in the long run.

I noticed on EBU website the following:

We are aware of issues affecting games on BBO. A lot of clubs have been impacted with games disrupted last week and again last night. BBO have issued the following statement:

"Our whole tech team is working on this. We thought we fixed it last week but apparently it was not enough. We're doing our best to get back to normal as soon as possible."

Those of us with a background in IT know how difficult it is to foresee or address such problems. But also how urgent and necessary it is to communicate them to customers. This message should be on BBO, not just EBU.

On Tuesday AM a relative called in a bit of a panic because she thought BBO had blocked her.

She's running the last supported version of Chrome, ~49, on her imac running 10.7.

Good thing there's zoom. I was able to bring up the console, and saw multiple error

messages announcing Err_Spdy_Protocol_Error right after log in. Some resources could

not be accessed.

There is a config to work with SPDY, but it's not available in her version of chrome.

Same thing with another relative later that day (nov 17), running an older version of Windows.

I don't know which version, but I can tell you both of these people never upgrade their

systems because they're tired of the way upgrades change their systems.

They're both not-so-happily running BBO v2, because they can log in to that. No virtual

tournaments though.

Further research showed there was a recent patch to IIS on Windows 10 that requires SPDY

for some transactions.

If this applies to BBO, I would test BBO against some older systems that are typical of many

of your users, and if you can replicate the breakage, roll back the update and communicate

minimum supported browsers and operating systems.

If this isn't the case, I would still increase the testing against a wider, older variety

of client systems and still communicate minimum supported versions.

10.7 is prehistoric. When I was running 10.11 I wasn't able to login to 90% of websites because SSL certificates were incompatible. I can't believe BBO is the only site she's having trouble with.

We upgraded the BBO web client last week, and it's no longer compatible with very old operating systems and browsers.

I have not been able to open BBO today. I get a "Cannot open critical file. Check your internet connection." message. I have tried with 3 different browsers, disconnected and re-connected to the Net, but still the same. I then tried with my Android tablet with the same result. Have others been getting the same message?

The login screen appears inaccessible.

All I see is the top left of the usual splahscreen with no way to get to the screen where you enter your credentials.

This is on a laptop with Chrome and also tried on a mobile device.

Other areas of Bridgebase seem ok - Forums :), Hands.

A friend who called me to alert me also has same issue.

I am going to try different browsers. But the assumption for now is that it is a site issue.

Now working again.

I had this problem until about 10:50 this morning.

and now it works. My OS is archlinux, and could not get a login screen in "v3" at all though all other aspects of BBO seemed fine. This was using firefox, and exactly the same problem on chromium. I then tried on a different pc using a different version of linux, the mint variation on ubuntu, and again the blue image of woman in front of apple laptop but no login.

Now I am signed in, with no effective changes (though I tried and failed to install flash to use the old version) and I hope the issue is solved.

I have been running NetBridgeVu.exe for many years (Version 5.2.21) but now I'm getting the following error message when I try to log in:

Login denied. Obsolete client. Please login via our web page at http://www.bridgebase.com

Err=788

I tried reinstalling the client, but am getting the same error message. What can I do to start using the client again?

BBO was down from 8PM US Eastern Tuesday until 4AM US Eastern Wednesday morning. Our team is still working on recovering from the outage. We will prepare refunds for all players who were in a pay game during this incident. We'll post updates here:
