bhall
Here are two of the most peculiar and difficult auctions that I have participated in: 1. ♠J853 ♥K64 ♦Q32 ♣J54 Opponents silent, mixed BAM: 1♦ - 1♠ 2♣ - 2♦ 2♥ - 2N 3♥ - ?My partner was an older lady, but by no means a LOL.Clearly, she is 0=5=7=6. 2. ♠QJ10652 ♥___ ♦Q1076 ♣AK4 Favorable, IMPs (my patner held this one) (1♥)-X(!)-(3♦-alerted as a preempt)-P (P)-3♠?-(4♠!)-4N (5♥)-P-(P)-6♦ (P)-???Having created this monster, can you slay it? I'd say 0=5=6+=6 :P 2. I've already overbid this my quite a margin, and I must confess I haven't got a clue what partner is doing. I'll turn off my hearing aid and bid 6♠. :D

I am passing. On the second one, responder meant the 3♦ as some form of ♥ raise, probably with short ♦s. Partner didn't double because: 1) he was worried that you'd take it as responsive (your own ♦s would be telling you it couldn't be penalty) and 2) the vulnerability was such that he expected to outscore a making game your way. Now he's come to life... and LHO has now remembered their agreement after the impossible 4♠ call or has worked out partner's error. So I pass.. I expect to make 6♦... I might even redouble... heck... if opener doubles, I do redouble :D Now that would make for a highlight reel, no matter the outcome: we play a redoubled slam when we could have been defending 3 of our trump suit :P
bhall
Give that man mike a big SEEGAR! He is right on both counts! In the second case, I held ♠x ♥___ ♦KJ10xxx ♣J109xx, and 3♦ was going for more than our game. Unfortunately, my partner didn't pass 6♦, so even though they led a ♥ against 7♦, I still went one down.
