OS X version 10.4.9 for dummies

Recommended Posts

My mom has an Apple computer (an iMAC4,1 with intel Core Duo). What software do I need to add to get NetbridgeVu to work? Be specific, this is the first time I have ever touched a mac and I am nearly lost... I did get on line with Safari.... :D

There are 3 ways to do it:

1. Purchase Parallels Workstation. This is a virtualization product that allows you to run a Windows virtual machine within OS X. You'll need to purchase Windows as well.

2. Use Apple Boot Camp. This allows you to configure a Mac so it can boot into either OS X or Windows. You'll again need to purchase Windows. This isn't as convenient as Parallels, because you have to reboot to switch between Windows and OS X.

3. Use WINE, as scoob mentioned. Rather than trying to install the Darwin port from SourceForge, you can purchase the commercial product CrossOver Mac from DreamWeavers. It has everything packaged up, with a nice GUI to configure things. Then see the tweaks in the thread about running BBO on Linux -- you'll need to copy the symbol.ttf font file from a real Windows machine into the WINE "bottle", and edit the BBO init file.
