Yet another exercise in clear thinking

Recommended Posts

I think I would attempt to cash the Club Ace at trick 3. If all follow then continue with Hog's line. If East shows out then I use trump entries to finesse out the Club Queen. If West shows out and ruffs the Club Ace then I was not making anyway, as East would duck the third round of Clubs if I drew trumps before testing for a 4-0 Club break.

Shouldn't this one be in the B/I forum?

Draw trumps pitching the J of C on the 4th H, then play AKT of C, ruff back to hand and claim.

No.

What if West has four clubs and the 10 of clubs holds the trick on the third round?

How about we draw trumps pitching dummy's second diamond. Then AK and another club. If they win the third club and play a diamond back, we can pitch the blocking club on this trick while ruffing in hand.

I'd play a club towards dummy at trick 3. I can't win if west is void. When he follow I win the ace and return to hand with a trump.

If east had a I draw trumps throwing T and play two rounds of 's.

If east was void in 's I finesse T, trump to hand, to J, K and trump to hand, drawing trump and claim an overtrick.

<snip case 3-1 or 2-2>

You have only 2 trumps left in dummy after you cash the A. You require those two spots as communication cards to hand for taking two club finesses.

You cannot get back to hand with a trump to draw last trump. After two finesses and cashing the K, dummy is out of trumps.

You can ruff a diamond back to hand though. Nevermind.

Yeah, you're right. I didn't add up the number of trumps played. :D

But, as you correctly point out, it doesn't matter.

Fits in with the name of the thread, doesn't it? :o

It does :P

btw,

David got it! (Well done)

The key play is to discard a diamond on the 4th trump, which guarantees the contract.
