3NT, gotta reopen with something, wouldn't be surprised to see RHO with club void, so breaks aren't gonna be nice on a trump contract.

If this is the case, they will be equally as bad in a NT contract and you have no source of tricks. But by defening 3C, you may well go +200.

On the other hand, it is more likely partner has 1-2 clubs and a hand so weak that it could not act in the direct seat. If this is the case, you're hosed when you bid 3N.

Pass.

[hv=d=w&v=e&s=sk972haqtdt83cqj3]133|100|Scoring: MP

(3C)=P=P=?[/hv]

Your call and why?

IMO P =10 3N=7 X = 4

If partner is short in clubs, He has few HCP; so pass seems circumspect.

if its your hand and partner has values, then he also has club length. Hence, if you decide to bid, you should try to avoid a club ruff, by bidding 3N.

For the passers out there, would it be different at IMPs? At a different vulnerability?

It does make a difference to me. I am doubling because it is MPs (still battling the part score). I agree with pass in IMPs because of the risk involved.

Pass is obvious.

Given what we know about the hand opposite, I will happily admit that I may not be able to get to the right spot on these two hands.

At MP it rarely pays off to play in a minor. Minor preempts OTOH tend to work well for the bidders most of the time.

And while I pass here like the majority, I do it only because of the vulnerabilities. LHO could well have a side entry for his clubs. At equal vulns I double, and at reverse, I bid 3NT. Knowing my style of preempting, at favorable I could bid 3 with 10xxxxxx or Kxxxxx and nothing aside.

Edit: At IMP I pass at all vulns, but I could still bid 3NT at unfavorable.
