underbid/overbid

2H.

Unless I find a fit, I will stay low,

and for what's it worth, 2H is surely

not and underbid.

Depending on your style of weak jump

overcalls at the given colors, you could have

bid 3H direct over 1C, or if you believed the

given hand too strong, than 2H now, shows

your hand, more or less.

With kind regards

Marlowe

What's all this about finding a fit? I have a heart fit with myself lol. Anyways, I'd try 3H, don't need much for game.

...and how do you like you 's opposite a void?

The suit is not self-sufficient enough for a 3 bid when you are this low on HCP. I'd want at least 3 of the top 4 honors for a 3 bid in this situation.

I don't mind either 2H or 3H

We have a very crisp hand, and spade values & length opposite a very nice.

AQxxx xx xx xxxx makes game if trumps are 2-2.

AJxxxx x Qxxx Qxx and 2H needs trumps 3-2 to make 2H.

Where does that leave us? Who knows?

As the posts so far seems to indicate, the hand is worth about 2.5's. Thus the optimists bid 3 and the pessimists bid 2 (or is it overbidders and underbidders? :) ).

I'll stick to the first camp and go for 3. :)

OK, I give up.

Why would you rather have KQJ8xxx than AKTxxxx?

I'd bid 2, but for a reason not mentioned so far (maybe because it isn't true). Partner's a passed hand, so I would bid 2 over 1 club with a 6 card suit and anything less than an full opening count. By slow bidding it like this, I'm already showing game interest across a maximum passed hand.

Your bid please & why?

very interesting hand.

I will try 2clubs but I can understand why some are bidding 2H or 3H.

My plan is to keep the bidding low and try and find out more. I assume 2clubs is not 100% game forcing.

I agree with the point 1H showed something more than a random overcall at this vul.

I liked my hand to start with even more after 1.

I did play cautiously and bid 2, luckily Richard cooperated and we bid and made the game.

3 for me also.

4 is a very close second.

2 is not even considered.

OK, so...what hand would be bad enough for 1 heart followed by 2 hearts, but too good for a direct two heart bid?

Oh -- wait one second. I just realized that we are red-on-white. In that case, I would overcall 2 the first time.

That makes a world of difference, as now any jump in hearts makes little to no sense. I cannot imagine a hand where I'd overcall 1 and jump to 3, as any "weird" hands would feature a spade fit now or a side minor.

1...2 would show a hand not good enough for an intermediate jump overcall. I cannot fathom this hand being deemed insufficient.

As for the idea of 2 showing a weak hand, red-on-white, I'm not that crazy about -500 scores.
