Playing to trick two

Recommended Posts

Your p makes a lead, from the top of a sequence or touching honors. You give negative attitude. The trick holds and he leads the next card in the sequence. Do you give suit preference here?

If I give a negative response to a top-of-sequence suit, and partner continues it, I play whatever I think will confuse declarer the most, since partner is obviously enamoured of his suit, and I will no doubt have a chance to give him an honest signal by the time he runs out of said suit (usually my first discard). Declarer seems to be holding up until I run out of the suit, so I don't want to do anything that will let him know my count. And since concealing my length and signalling a suit at the same time is beyond my abilities....
