I absolutely think pass should be forcing here, which would make this an obvious pass. And I'm someone who rarely thinks passes should be forcing. Partner bid game to make, and even if they may be hoping to make their bid is almost always intended as a sacrifice. I should say if I knew pass wasn't forcing for my partnership I would bid 5.

I agree pass should be forcing here.

But I have no intention to defend here, and I am not strong enough for pass-and-pull. So i stick to 5.

Thanks for the answers.

5 seems to be the popular choice.

I DBL'ed and 5 made.

partner had 8card : AKQxxxxx and Q..

That's not even close to a 4 bid. You don't preempt over a preempt. He should have bid 3.

Well the bidder probably had more than that, else how was 5 making.

This is a style issue, IMO the difference between 3 and 4 is only the lack or alternative contracts. Its not a preemptive, it is bid to make, but doesn't wanna defend nor play in another suit.

He never said 5 made - 5x did make.

Depends, I think 4S is fine, you have 8 tricks

and the Queen of hearts (1/4 - 1/2)-trick,

you can expect partner to hold 10HCP (half of the

missing deck), i.e. you have a fair chance that

4S is making, I would bid 4S every day.

Partner will never play you for such a hand and

raise you with 2 tricks, because he has no fit.

With kind regards

Marlowe

PS: I would even bid 4S without the Q of hearts, I simply

repeat, you have barely what partner can expect on average,

he can count on you to have 7HCP, and he will factor this

expections in his bids in.
